If you’re a true New Mexican (or just want to eat like one), Chile Konnection Produce at 1136 Broadway Blvd NE is your spot. Located in the historic Martineztown neighborhood, this isn't some fancy, high-end organic boutique—it’s a real-deal, authentic tiendita where the smell of roasting green chile in the air is enough to make your mouth water from a block away. It’s a local favorite because it skips the frills and focuses on what really matters: high-quality New Mexico chile and fresh produce at prices that won't break the bank.

The main reason to visit, especially during roasting season, is the variety and heat levels. They have everything from mild to the "XXX" super hot that locals crave. Whether you need a fresh ristra to hang on your porch, dried pods for your red chile sauce, or a massive sack of freshly roasted green chile to stock your freezer, they’ve got you covered. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a cash-only business, so make sure to hit the ATM before you arrive—it’s part of the old-school charm that keeps the prices low and the vibe authentic.

What sets Chile Konnection apart is that it feels like a neighborhood hub where people actually know their peppers. The staff is down-to-earth and helpful, whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-timer trying to figure out the difference between Sandia and Big Jim varieties. It’s also a great place to grab local spices and seasonal produce like watermelons or piñon nuts. If you want the true Albuquerque experience—no pretension, just great food and friendly service—this Broadway Blvd gem is where you need to be.

This little shop is great! They have a great variety of dried peppers, pepper powders, frozen peppers, pozole, and a couple of produce coolers. I found the prices to be inexpensive. I got a half pound of dried red chile pods for $5. The lady that helped me was very nice and gave me good recommendations. She also said they do green chile roasting July through October. Definitely going back for green chile season!

What can I say, we were driving along and this place just appeared! So we had to stop and make the konnection Pancho y Pancho were super friendly and were able to find the bag of Chiles we needed (my wife likes mild) ayyyyyyy. Believe it or not, I was unable to convince her to get the XXX Hot peppers for our enchiladas. Beautiful little tienda and wonderful people inside! Highly recommend this store, and you're helping local business owners, a total win/win!!!

Like others have stated, cash only, which they should state somewhere on their web page. I drove from Rio Rancho and didn't know about cash only until I got there.
