Welcome to the "Heart of the South." Located at 2801 N Decatur Rd, Suite 395, in the medical hub of North Decatur, the practice of Dr. Jeffrey Howard, MD is a premier destination for cardiovascular care where big-city technology meets small-town empathy.

Dr. Howard is a board-certified cardiologist with Atlanta Heart Specialists who brings a unique "servant-leader" philosophy to heart health—viewing every patient as a neighbor and every diagnosis as a partnership.

The Vibe: Rooted and Reliable

Dr. Howard’s path to North Decatur is part of his charm. Born in Chicago and raised in the rural town of Cotton Plant, Arkansas, he maintains the "hometown doctor" approachability that is rare in high-stakes cardiology. The office is defined by a sense of calm and thoroughness; it’s a place where patients are encouraged to speak their minds, and where "listening" is considered the most important diagnostic tool in the room.

The Specialist: The Cardiovascular Architect

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Howard has built a reputation for managing the complex interplay between the heart and the rest of the body:

The Hypertensive Specialist: He is highly recognized for his work in Hypertensive Heart Disease and its relationship with chronic kidney disease. He treats these conditions with an aggressive, evidence-based strategy designed to protect the heart long before a crisis occurs.

The "Ivy-Standard" Training: His medical foundation is elite, having completed his residency at UAB (the origin of legendary medical textbooks) and his fellowship at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology under the pioneers of modern echocardiography.

The Nuclear Expert: As a specialist in Nuclear Cardiology, he utilizes high-tech stress testing and imaging to create a "transparent" view of the heart's blood flow, identifying blockages with microscopic precision.

The Craft: High-Resolution Heart Defense

What makes Suite 395 unique? It is the blend of prevention and intervention:

Comprehensive Diagnostics: From Tilt Table Testing for fainting spells to Vascular Ultrasound for leg pain, the office is a one-stop-shop for identifying hidden vascular risks.

Heart Rhythm Hub: Dr. Howard is a master of rhythm management, specializing in the diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and the monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators.

The "Whole Person" Plan: Reflecting his motto, “First of all; servants of all,” he is deeply involved in community health initiatives, often collaborating with local institutions to promote wellness beyond the clinic walls.

Why It’s Unique to the Decatur/Emory Corridor

The "Emory Decatur" Synergy: Being located right next to Emory Decatur Hospital, Dr. Howard’s patients benefit from a seamless transition between private office care and the resources of a top-tier hospital system.

The Community Pillar: Dr. Howard isn’t just a doctor in Decatur; he is a community leader. He is known for sponsoring local wellness programs and "Vacation Bible Schools" in honor of his late mother, bringing a level of soul to his practice that you won't find in a corporate health conglomerate.

The Educator’s Clarity: Patients frequently praise him for being an "outstanding communicator." He breaks down the complex "physics" of the heart into clear, actionable steps that empower patients to take control of their own longevity.

The Patient Experience

The Clinical Verdict: "Professional, knowledgeable, and caring." Patients consistently highlight that Dr. Howard is a doctor who "actually listens to all your concerns." If you are looking for a world-class cardiologist who still values the human connection and treats you with the respect of a lifelong friend, Dr. Howard is the definitive choice for the Decatur community.

Dr. Howard may be an OK cardiologist, but he certainly has no bedside manner and I did not get any warm fuzzies. His staff, however, make it not even worth trying to find out more. They are not even nice and they are barely qualified to be in a medical setting. Unfortunately, as with most Emory doctors, the staff are the people with whom you’ll spend the most time. Administratively they are a disaster. Recently we could not get records from Dr. Howard‘s office after repeated requests, which almost caused a long-planned surgery to be canceled. They are the worst.

Dr. Howard was great, seemed to really listen and be willing to get to the bottom of what I’ve been dealing with. However… no one answered the phones. I needed to go for a test and needed a script for it and called the office several times over a two week period. Call was never answered, left voicemails, and never received a call back. I had to go to a different cardiologist because I needed care and couldn’t get it. Dr. Howard, please get a staff that answers the phones. You’re too good of a doctor to lose patients over this.

I was diagnopsed with pots at the age of 12, but i did not believe it, no meds helped, i was always feeling drained and missing school. In my i had a flare up and i was in type 2 hypotension, i then got referred to Dr. Howard. he has been the only doctor who has listened and been thorough. I just found out its my brain and not my heart , all thanks to him. We now know where to start treating.

Doctor Howard is a sweetheart doctor. I do not know how else to describe him. Attentive, caring, takes his time. The office is inviting, and the staff is good. The check-in forms need to be redesigned—there is too little space for information and too many repeated questions. I have a long way to go with him and I will keep updating this review. So far 10/10.

Dr Howard and his staff have given me nothing but excellent Care I have been in the hospital twice this year and rehab as well. My doctor has followed up on me in such a caring way. His staff have been nothing but friendly, caring, and they have extended nothing but the best care with my appointments, test and everything else. I find Dr Howard to be very professional and not one given to chatting with his patients. I'd rather he stick to my heart and it's issue, than to try to become my best friend and bosom buddy. As a mature adult I don't need all of the other nonsense. This man does not roll his eyes at people. He is very into his practice. Once I told him that my eyes were burning and I thought that something was wrong with my eyes. Dr Howard is not one for chit chat, he only looked at me and reminded me that he was a cardiologist, and not a eye doctor. All I could do was chuckle and remember that I was with the cardiologists, who only practices cardiology.
