Atlanta, 6000 N Terminal Pkwy Suite 4000, Atlanta, GA 30320

If you’re an Atlantan, you know the mixed bag of emotions that comes with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) at 6000 N Terminal Pkwy. It’s officially the busiest airport in the world, which sounds intimidating, but for those of us who live here, it’s just "the airport." Whether you're a Delta regular flying out of the South Terminal or catching a low-cost carrier at the North Terminal, ATL is the engine that keeps our city moving. It’s huge, spanning seven concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E, and F), but once you get the hang of the layout, it’s actually one of the most efficient places to travel through.

The real secret to surviving ATL is mastering the Plane Train. This underground mover is a total lifesaver, connecting the Domestic Terminal all the way to the International Terminal (Concourse F) in minutes. In early 2026, they actually rolled out new, higher-capacity cars that arrive every 90 seconds, so you’re never standing on the platform for long. If you’ve got a little extra time and want to get your steps in, the walk between Concourses A and B is a local favorite—it’s an art installation called "Flight Paths" that makes you feel like you’re walking through a rainforest, complete with bird sounds and a canopy of leaves. It’s the best way to de-stress before a long flight.

For us locals, the MARTA connection is probably the biggest perk. Being able to hop on a train at Five Points or North Springs and get dropped off directly inside the Domestic Terminal beats wrestling with I-85 traffic any day. If you’re driving, the new ATL West Parking Deck is the move—it connects directly to the terminal via the SkyTrain, which also takes you to the Rental Car Center and the Gateway Center hotels for free. And when it comes to food, we’re lucky to have real Atlanta staples like Paschal’s or The Varsity right by the gates, so you can get a final taste of home-grown fried chicken or a chili dog before you leave.

The airport is a 24/7 operation, though the vibe changes a lot after the midnight rush. As of March 2026, here are the general hours to keep in mind:

Main Terminals & Parking: Open 24/7, 365 days a year.

TSA Security (Domestic): Generally 4:30 AM – 9:00 PM (Main Checkpoint is usually 24/7).

TSA Security (International): 5:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

Plane Train & SkyTrain: Both run 24/7 (though they might go down to one track for maintenance late at night).

Whether you’re a business traveler using TSA PreCheck Touchless ID to breeze through security or a family heading to the International Terminal for a big vacation, Hartsfield-Jackson is a world-class facility that still feels like a piece of Atlanta. Just a heads-up: with the 2026 travel season in full swing, always check the ATL.com website for real-time security wait times before you leave the house—sometimes those lines can stretch back to the atrium before you know it!

Arrived at ATL via Cobblinc buses and the Marta train in 2h from Marietta, got through TSA (pre-check) in half an hour, and took the Plane Train to E gates. Signage is excellent and the airport is easy to navigate (in English).

TSA can get a little crazy, but the staff handle it well.

ATL is well ATL. Tip: if you have the time, go out to F terminal which is also known as the International terminal and grab some food and drink. It tends to be less crowded and quieter.

Fix the wait time for TSA so people can actually catch their flights on time. The crazy lines don’t make sense. If the flights are already full, and you know how many people are coming to the airport it should be easy and effortless for people to get through the line and not be waiting 3 to 5 hours. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Atlanta airport get it together ASAP!!! Tighten up, y’all looking bad!!

Obviously, ATL is a very large airport. However, it is fairly easy to navigate and offers a military lounge; funded by Delta, in concurce F, which is very large and nice to relax while waiting.

It's very busy, which means it's gonna be chaotic no matter what you do. But considering, they are on top of things and try their best to make things quick and easy.

It's not fancy, it's not beautiful compared to other airports around the world, and it is extremely overutelized by Delta as their main hub. The only reason that 150 million passengers travel through Atlanta, the 9th largest market in the South and the 20th largest in the U.S. is because Delta forces so many of its customers to pass through this hub. Having said that, they have a decent selection of food and an impressive layout and internal train system that minimizes how far one has to walk and makes a 30 minute connection at opposite ends of the airport absolutely possible.

I have been at this airport several times and my overall experience is awesome. It feels good to stay in a clean and an organized boarding gate especially when you have hours of layover.
Unfortunately getting access to use the bathroom was a different experience for my family and i this time.
The line of people waiting for their turn to use the bathroom was super long.
I'm not sure if this day was extremely exceptional. If not, then this situation needs immediate attention i guess. The emergency to use the bathroom can be a nightmare if you don't have easy access for one.
My husband couldn't get to use the bathroom around our gate, (Gate B 13 ) before we jumped on our connecting flight. We had few minutes wait time to board our connecting flight.
My kids and I was about 15th position in line to use the bathroom. We spent not less than 10mins before it got to our turn.
The line kept building up at the time we were leaving the bathroom.
This situation made me realize how good, convenient and time saving it is to get access to use a family bathroom.

A few food selections open, not much tho. I have always enjoyed flying thru here, there is pretty neat museum between the concourses on the train level. If you have a long layover go to the international concourse (E&F), it's much quieter.

The airport is good, the security and safety, not so much.
I was pickpocketed and asked for help but nobody moved a finger to help me.

Mildly fast security, needs more early bird choices for food so the lines aren't absurd.

Terrible wait for a screening, expect to spend at a minimum 40min in screening. The parking situation is terrible as they are building a new garage. Best to use the off-site shuttle.

Lots of flight availability

The Delta lounge are crowded, check your app and try to stop by a lounge in a less busy terminal

For holidays - take an extra 45 min to get through TSA
