Boston Children's Hospital is a 395-bed comprehensive children's center. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a full range of health care services for children from birth to age 21. (Our Advanced Fetal Care Center can begin interventions as early as 15 weeks' gestation, and in some situations we treat adults.)

Boston Children's records approximately 24,943 inpatient visits each year, and our 228 specialty clinical programs schedule more than 557,620 visits annually. In addition, the hospital performed 26,534 surgical procedures and 158,791 x-ray examinations last year.

Boston Children's is home to the world's largest research enterprise located at a children's hospital. More than 1,100 scientists, including nine members of the National Academy of Sciences, 11 staff members of the Institute of Medicine, and nine members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, make up our research community. Ongoing initiatives have attracted a record $225 million in annual funding, including more federal funding than any other pediatric institution.

In pediatric research laboratories named after. John F. Enders, named after the Boston children's researcher and Nobel Prize winner who grew the polio and measles viruses, hundreds of laboratory researchers and physician researchers are seeking answers to some of the most challenging questions.

In 2003, a generous philanthropic gift made possible the creation of the 295,000 square foot Karp Family Research Laboratories. The building increased our research area by more than 60 percent. The Karp family gift is just one of many important gifts that support Children's Boston's vital research enterprise.

Over the years, scientists at Boston Children's have set the pace of pediatric research, identifying treatments and cures for many debilitating diseases, including those affecting adults.

TOP important and interesting reviews from patients

We called to make an appointment for my daughter to put a cast on and got an appointment that same day. The orthopedics floor was easy to find in the Fegan building. Check in was fast, as well as putting the cast on. The staff was very nice and caring and made my daughter feel comfortable. Valet was quick also.

My son was airlifted to Boston children's hospital from NY and stayed for about 3 weeks, he was in bad condition, I'm highly pleased with all of the staff that cared for him! They ALL did such a amazing job! I couldn't be there as much as I wanted but the doctors and nurses made sure to update me immediately when there was a new update, no update was too small for them to give me a call. Also, the social worker Katherine was the most amazing! She constantly checked in on me and my son and she always called me or emailed me to keep in contact. She also made sure she did everything she could do to ensure I made it to Boston to be there with my son and I had what I needed to be comfortable during such a hard time. The dr also went out of his way and brought my son Chick-fil-A, that put a huge smile on his face and still talks about how cool the dr is for that  ill forever and always recommend Boston children's hospital!

My child was on 9 east over 3 weeks. I stayed with her the whole time. The doctors , nurses and medical assistants were wonderful. I live closer to Baystate Hospital and will never go there again I will take the time to go to Boston's and get my child the proper care. Giant shout out to Mimos on 9E she always was there with high fives and something positive to say, my child still talks about her.

To begin my child was born at another hospital in Boston where they treated my new born for Jaundice under uv lights.. the babies condition did not improve and no one heard my concerns when I said my baby looked extremely yellow and wasn’t acting right. It wasn’t until the babies levels reached critical levels of jaundice that the drs at the other hospital raised concern but even then they tried to assure me it would level out in a couple days and be fine… nope I wasn’t buying it any more and I rushed my baby to Boston children’s. I was sick from only a week post partum myself and having struggled through a severely high risk pregnancy, had major surgery during pregnancy, a car crash at the end of my pregnancy , & more than you can imagine. We arrived at Boston Children’s Hospital I was at the check in desk they started asking a couple questions and I broke down into tears.. numerous nurses and staff gathered around us grabbed my newborn and in the matter of minutes they had my baby in a room in the er under uv lights to start treating the jaundice and running vitals. I literally was a mess but the nurses the drs truly gave me comfort. They were so attentive to my baby and me they were concerned for us both. A couple hours and the baby was admitted to the 7th floor. My little baby went through various blood tests every day and stayed under uv lights to lower jaundice. The drs had come to me with a diagnosis within a couple days my little one had HDN a rare blood disease that causes hyperbillrubin (jaundice) which can last for an extended period of time. They were able to pin point what the other hospital brushed off. Jumping forward a little bit the baby had issues with failure to thrive and had to be placed on a feeding tube alongside medications and had been in the hospital pretty much since birth and several weeks had passed. I was worried about my baby what the outcome could be. I honestly started to become worried with the issues and the things I read about the disease that my baby might not make it. Even though they told me everything would be fine. I asked for a Chaplin and the nurse was so pleased to help me and have them come see me. I decided to have ny baby baptized in the hospital. My babies nurse I believe her name Was Quinn without hestisation agreed to be the witness to the baptism. That moment can’t be made up or replaced… Our hospital stay continued, my baby under the relentless care from the drs and nurses improved… we were discharged and came home (on a feeding tube) I have other children and the baby unfortunately had to be readmitted again to complicate things shortly after admission my oldest kids brought the flu home. I wasn’t able to visit this time so to not jeopardize my babies health more than it always was. The drs called me with updates and the nurses gave me updates every time I called .. this is the only place on earth I could trust outside of my family leaving my baby overnight with out me. They gave the baby so much love and attention and we’re even able to take out the feeding tube and do all oral feeds. My baby has had the most amazing teams from the time we walked in a few months ago to today!!!! I truly feel Boston Children’s Hospital saved my child’s life. I could not be more thankful for the amazing drs and nurses and staff. The world does come here for answers and they answered my questions and have gone above and beyond. Thank you for all you all do thank you for your dedication care and love.

Merciless extortion from parents of sick children. If you have anywhere else to go ...go elsewhere. Overworked tired doctors and nurses, packed waiting room where you get more bugs then you bring, outrageous bills with mistakes you will be trying to fix for years.
Rude staff, 12 hour shifts ..how is that even legal or safe !?
We had a surgery ... Which could and should have been avoided.

The surgery department at Boston Childrens works like clockwork, but avoid the ER if you can help it. Absolutely the worst ER experience by far. Avoid at all cost. We came in with appendicitis after our doctor called it in, still had to wait 1.5 hours before we got admitted, when we came in the room was still with the dirty bedlinen, so we waited in the hallway for them to clean up.3 hours to get ultrasound results interpreted ("inconclusive"), results of labs ("inconclusive"), ~2 more hours here and there to discuss treatment plan (finally they did only after I threatened to leave), the 2 more hours from decision to perform MRI to actual MRI results (were told it would take 15 min). Booked for overnight stay until early morning surgery only to be told there is no room in the hospital and had to stay in the ER room. At least they actually administered antibiotics. If I had not threatened to leave, they would have waited for my child's appendicitis to burst before acting. Most annoying, there are about 3 admins staring at computers for every working ER doctor or nurse. We were asked the same questions over and over again (I am sure we will get billed for these useless conversations). If you get transferred from elsewhere straight into the hospital you would probably be fine, the surgery department worked great for us.

I’m sure the doctors and facilities are great, but the billing service that handles individual doctors office’s accounts is literally a joke. They send bills for amounts that have yet to be reviewed by insurance, and never follow up with a final amount. Then, they send you to collections AND THE AMOUNTS IN COLLECTIONS WERE NEVER DISPLAYED ON ANY OF THE BILLS. What a joke.

I consulted a gastroenterologist for a very rare disease in children in 2012. The doctor diagnosed it accurately. I was referred to the gastroenterologist by child's paediatrician.

Had to go the ER while on vacation with our 5 yo son. What a great hospital. Nurses and Dr were both great. Highly recommend them if you ever need a children's hospital.
