Terrible customer service. I was rented an UNSAFE car which was ILLEGAL to be on the road. I had a week long rental and decided to upgrade at the counter when I picked up the car. After driving for a two days, the check engine light came on, so I called roadside assistance (spent 25 min waiting) to ask what to do and document the situation. They told me it was ok, and to carry on unless something worse happened. The light went off the next day. Two days later I had a different exclamation point warning pop up, so I once again called to document. They told me I could continue driving the car. The next day, I parked my car and came back to find a ticket on the dashboard - the car was overdue for an inspection since October (it’s December end). I called again, asked what to do, they told me I would need to hand over at return counter. I then proceeded to ask what Hertz could do for me, considering I am driving a car which is illegally on the road and would not pass inspection based on the lights that were on. They informed me that I would need to discuss at the counter. NOW, at the counter, I once again explained the situation and asked whether at a minimum, they could reimburse the cost of the upgrade. Not only did they question everything that I said they refused to do anything. One guy came in to say the lights aren’t on anymore. I assured him it was the entire 3 hour drive home. The manager claimed I never called roadside, saying he was looking at my record. Thankfully, I had a case number and then he said he’d look into it further. Above all of that, he said if I waited 5 minutes he would be back to the hertz office - I was there 40 minutes and he never showed, and texted the woman at the counter saying he couldn’t do anything. Lastly, when I asked for the name of the manager, they refused to give me anything but a first name, Idrisa. My point was that I should never have been rented a car which should not be on the road. On top of that, because of the issues, I was inconvenienced multiple times during the week. As a gold member, and a loyal customer, I expected a level of customer service, recognition instead of defensiveness at the counter, an apology for renting me a car which should not have been on the road, an offer to make things right. I got nothing. I will be escalating through hertz online customer care channels. And I won’t be renting with hertz at this location again.
