99 Ranch Market - Jersey City (420 Grand St)
Located in the Liberty Harbor neighborhood of downtown Jersey City, 99 Ranch Market is a massive 50,000-square-foot flagship store and a primary destination for the North Jersey community. Occupying the former Pathmark space, it is widely considered the best source for authentic Asian groceries, fresh seafood, and specialty imported goods in the area.
The Shopping Experience: A Pan-Asian Hub
99 Ranch is more than just a grocery store; it is an immersive experience where you can find ingredients that are often unavailable in mainstream supermarkets.
World-Class Produce: Known for having one of the best produce sections in the city, offering exotic fruits and vegetables like lotus root, dragon fruit, bok choy, and various herbs at competitive prices.
Live Seafood & Butcher: A massive highlight is the live seafood department, featuring tanks with lobsters, crabs, and fish that can be cleaned and prepared for you on the spot. The butcher shop offers specialized cuts used in Asian cooking, such as thinly sliced meats for hotpot.
Aisles of Discovery: You’ll find entire aisles dedicated to imported snacks, instant noodles (from premium ramen to regional specialties), and an expansive collection of teas and sauces from China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Bakery: The in-store bakery features fresh Chinese pastries, egg tarts, and decorated cakes.
The Food Court: Eat Up & Relax
The store features a vibrant food court (often referred to as part of the "Eat Up" hall concept in newer branches) that makes it a popular lunch and dinner spot:
Dim Sum & Hot Deli: Offers ready-to-eat items like roast duck, BBQ pork (char siu), and steamed buns.
King’s Village Food: Known for authentic Northern Chinese street food, including Jianbing (savory crepes) and meat burgers.
CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice: A fan-favorite stall for authentic Taiwanese bubble tea.
Ramen & Sushi: Various stalls offer fresh sashimi, sushi rolls, and steaming bowls of ramen.
Why It’s a Local Favorite
Convenient Parking: Unlike most downtown Jersey City businesses, 99 Ranch has a large, dedicated free parking lot, making it accessible for those driving in from nearby Hoboken or Bayonne.
Modern & Clean: While it is a high-volume warehouse-style market, it is praised for its organized layout and wide aisles compared to traditional Chinatown markets.
One-Stop Shop: From high-end rice cookers and wok sets to basic household essentials, it serves as a complete lifestyle center for the Asian-American community and food enthusiasts alike.

The most interesting reviews
- Truly love the place.... especially their seafood counter. They have lots of fresh shellfish to choose from at very reasonable prices. I typically shop there weekly.
- One of my favorite Asian supermarkets , I’m not Asian and I love the variety of all the Asian products they have and the small restaurants they have inside to the bakery. Only thing is the Meats and Fish don’t look as fresh as they should be and the place is infested with mice. Like I said I’m not Asian so I only come here sometimes but today and the last time I was here I witnessed Mice jumping from aisle to aisle. I would definitely give them 5 starts if they can manage there mice situation and the meat and fish department
- A little pricey but the best option in the area for fresh produce.
