St Paul, 432 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55103, United States

If you’re driving down University Avenue in St. Paul and looking for a real taste of the neighborhood, Ai Hue’s Bakery & Deli (432 University Ave W) is the ultimate "hidden gem." It’s tucked away slightly behind the main storefronts—you actually have to head toward the back alley area to find the entrance—but once you do, you’re in for some of the most authentic Vietnamese comfort food in the Twin Cities. For us locals, it’s the go-to spot when you want a meal that feels like it came straight out of a family kitchen rather than a polished franchise.

The real draw at Ai Hue’s is the incredible variety of grab-and-go treats and sit-down staples. Their Banh Mi is legendary around here, with bread that has that perfect "crunch" on the outside and soft airy inside that only a true bakery can get right. If you’re a fan of noodle soup, their Pho (especially the House Special) is packed with flavor and generous portions of meat. But the real secret is the steamed buns (Banh Bao) and the colorful selection of traditional desserts like honeycomb cake and pandan treats that sit right on the counter—perfect for picking up on your way home.

What makes this place stand out is the "no-frills" but warm atmosphere. It’s a family-run business where the staff works fast and the food is consistently fresh. It’s the kind of place where you’ll see people popping in for a quick Vietnamese iced coffee or a durian drink alongside families sitting down for a full spread of broken rice plates. Because it’s located in the heart of the Little Mekong district, it’s surrounded by history and culture, making it a staple for the local community for years.

If you’re planning a visit, the hours are very consistent for a lunch or early dinner run. Ai Hue’s Bakery & Deli is open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Please note that they are typically closed on Tuesdays, so plan your cravings accordingly! It’s an essential stop for anyone who loves big flavors and a humble, welcoming vibe in St. Paul.

Blown away by the low reviews. This is my favorite place for viet food in Saint Paul. They have unique items like crab noodle soup I haven’t found anywhere else. This place feels authentic to me, If you don’t have an acquired taste to viet food maybe you’d prefer a more washed down spot but I love this place so much.

A favorite of mine. The pastries and bakery items are amazing. The pho is good. And the owner is very sweet.

Bahn mi was sadly underwhelming. Almost no meat(shredded pork and grilled pork), barely any cilantro or sauce. The other food I order was good so 3 stars.

Edit: I appreciate your reply, I will try your restaurant again in the near future and hope I can have the enjoyable experience others have had.

Cozy little spot with friendly service. My 1st time here, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu yet. The elder there was very pleasant and welcoming. She said when I co.e back, she'll have some more recommendations for me.

Came for brunch.
bánh mì bread was great, and overall very good bánh mì!
fish cake in the canh bún was good.
mung bean drink was a bit too sweet for me but good texture.
Lots of fun treats too, like mung bean cake, honeycomb bread (pandan), and chè.

The food was okay, not too delicious like some restaurants in Brooklyn Park!
He charged me tips in the credit card by himself even though I told him I put tips in cash on the table and over -charged some deserts to go also! Never come back here!

Their pho is my favorite! I actually don't even want pho anywhere else bc it doesn't come close to the pho here.

Their other soup noodles are fantastic too.

Delicious Bahn Mi (I had the B3) and also walked away with a selection of baked goods and savory rice buns. The woman working patiently explained what was in their hot dessert bar. The banana bread with full length banana slices was worth coming back for alone - but I’ll be back to try more of everything!
