If you’re driving through the Totem Lake area in Kirkland and looking for something a bit more soulful than your average grocery run, Arbat International Food Market is a true hidden gem. Located at 12053 124th Ave NE, this family-owned spot is like a gateway to Eastern Europe right in the middle of the Pacific Northwest. The second you walk through the door, the smell of smoked meats and freshly baked bread hits you, and you realize this isn't just a place to buy milk and eggs—it’s a destination for anyone who misses the authentic flavors of home or just loves exploring global cuisines.

The heart of Arbat is definitely their deli and meat counter, which feels like a masterclass in tradition. They carry an incredible selection of kielbasa, smoked fish, and cured meats that you simply won’t find at the big-box stores nearby. Their cheese section is equally impressive, featuring everything from creamy, salty feta to specialty bryndza and farmers' cheeses that are perfect for making homemade blini or pierogi. If you’re a fan of pantry staples, you’ll find yourself wandering the aisles for much longer than planned, discovering unique jars of pickled vegetables, specialty honey, and shelves full of chocolates and sweets from Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

What makes a trip to Arbat really special is their selection of prepared foods and baked goods. Their bakery section often features fresh, crusty loaves and traditional pastries that are perfect for a quick snack or a weekend brunch. Many locals swear by their selection of frozen dumplings—pelmeni and vareniki—which are a total lifesaver for those busy weeknights when you want a meal that feels like it was made by a grandmother rather than a factory. It’s also one of the best spots in Kirkland to find authentic kvass, birch juice, and a wide variety of imported teas that bring a bit of European café culture to your own kitchen.

Beyond the food, there’s a genuine warmth to the place that you only get from a community-focused market. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, often happy to explain the difference between various types of caviar or suggest the best preserve to pair with your tea. Whether you’re looking for a specific ingredient for a traditional holiday meal or you’re just a curious foodie wanting to try a new kind of smoked salmon, Arbat International Food Market provides a high-quality, authentic experience. It’s a small slice of the world tucked away in a convenient Kirkland location, and it’s well worth the visit for anyone who appreciates real, honest food.

It’s a traditional Eastern European store where you can find Russian food, chocolates, dumplings, and even books. The décor, inspired by the ’90s, adds a touch of charm and nostalgia, especially for those who emigrated from the USSR.

We absolutely love this place! We can find here all the items that remind us of home and make our food complete! Surely nice to see the Bors magic, the pufuleți (corn puffs), zacusca, zefir, etc. Weike very much the Amish cheese for branza cu smantana. Every visit to the store ends with a sweet purchase as here I can find Milka chocolate, lots of flavors.
