ABOUT

Who are we? Well, we seek out the finest natural and organic foods available, maintain the strictest quality standards in the industry, and have an unshakeable commitment to sustainable agriculture. Add to that the excitement and fun we bring to shopping for groceries, and you start to get a sense of what we’re all about. Oh yeah, we’re a mission-driven company too.

The original Whole Foods Market opened in 1980 with a staff of only 19 people. It was an immediate success. At the time, there were less than half a dozen natural food supermarkets in the United States. We have grown by leaps and bounds since our first store opened.

Employees stocking shelves and fulfilling online orders treat you like you're in the way and expect you to move as a customer who's shopping so they can do their jobs. (Not that they would ever ask if you need help) Last I remembered you wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for the customers. This store gets progressively worse all the time

UPDATE: So I decided to give Walmart another try and everything was put in a plastic bag. Will see how things work out in the next few months.

I ordered groceries to be delivered from Whole Foods on June 23, 2023 as I’d had major problems with Walmart and InstaCart in the past. Let me just say that Whole Foods is much much better!!! Best service I’ve received from grocery delivery service. Highly recommend them.

Clean, well stocked, helpful staff. On the other hand, ABQ Whole Foods locations are VERY corporate (WF owned by Amazon now), more expensive than Natural Grocers or (mostly) La Montanita Co-op; and range of organic fresh produce tends to be inconsistent to poor. Prices can be decent on WF/'365' brand items, but it's hit & miss – for example Smiths/Kroger's Simple Truth organic salsa is now almost $2 cheaper than 365's (07/'23). Hot food bars (including 6 or so soups), bakery & deli have great variety & high quality but are very pricy.

I had an Amazon order shipped to the Academy store using the Amazon Lockers delivery option – which was physically convenient, cheaper than other Amazon delivery alternatives, & easy to use.

FYI you can add EBT to your payment methods, and this and/or Medicare eligibility lets you get Amazon Prime at half price (currently $7/month) – which is really the only way to get significant discounts at WF since post-Amazon, WF no longer does coupons; and sale prices without the added Prime discounts generally just make prices wave plaintively at plebian slob range.

It's a plus that unlike the Carlisle WF, the Academy store does NOT lock you out of the restrooms with a combination keypad. Could have done without wading thru the toxic cig smoke of the security guy standing around at the entrance, though.
