TOP important and interesting reviews from patients

Had some female issues and my doctor told me to go to the ER. This would be my second time going to this ER. I got there at 11:02 am. By 11:09 am, I was triaged. 12:06 pm, blood was taken by Jessica who was great and was great at teaching a newbie. 1:45pm I was taken to a room. After an IV and sonograms, (thank you Josiah for wheeling me down there) I was out of there at 5:45pm. Was it a long time? Yes. However, everyone was absolutely wonderful. Considering how many patients these people see, wait times are going to be a bit long. I appreciated the respect and dignity I was given and the doctor’s thoroughness in making sure I got answers to why I wasn’t feeling well.

Huge thank you to the nurses and staff in the surgical center and PACU! We had surgery for my one year old son and they caught his airways swelling and took such great care of us! Every need and question was met and felt that they really showered us with care and attention which was such a relief in a scary situation. Love you guys! Logan says thank you for making him feel as if he had superstar status!!- Susan

The staff working the ER this morning was amazing. I'm a believer that first impressions go a long way. The receptionist, tech, volunteers, and medical personnel were all very friendly. They actually helped and socialized with everyone, and treated them the way people would like to be treated.

Had to make a trip to the ER two days in a row. Yesterday was Howard County Hospital ER (and that was a nightmare, from 4-5 hour wait, to rude nasty employees). Today was Anne Arundel Medical Center ER, and the experience was refreshingly... night and day better than Howard County's ER. There was still a wait at Anne Arundel ER, but it was about a quarter of the wait time of Howard County ER. Anne Arundel ER was welcoming, kind, caring, and professional. My Wife said from now on that locally if we need to go to the ER, we won't go anywhere else but Anne Arundel Medical Centers ER.

~ 530p-630p on 9/26/23. waiting area is full...a line to check in.

1. while waiting to check in, someone is called. they don't answer and are promptly canceled from the system. (seems they just stepped outside). the heavy, white, young guy, who cancelled them, said doesn't know what/there's nothing he can do. zero initiative to call the gods in charge to enlighten them of the situation. a woman (volunteer?) took control/got the patient in.

2. at some point in the evening, a woman nurse (?) tells the crowd there are too many people in the waiting area and those accompanying patients must move to a secondary area. a SECONDARY waiting room? why are those w potentially contagious conditions stuffed in w the injuries or other symptoms that are obviously not contagions? this is a DECADES long issue here. should part of triage...separate people. btw covid is back, so why is any non patient even allowed to take up space in the waiting area?

3. ~930p I looked up when staff were loudly saying ARE YOU DRUNK? the man is very apologetic/calm the entire time. he tells them to take the alcohol from his backpack/that he needs to lie down. a white woman nurse (blond with a pony tail wearing bright blue scrubs) comes out and YELLS and BERATES him repeatedly. he is stuffed into a wheelchair, slumping forward. the chair is backed to a wall (vs locked and facing the wall, which, should he fall forward, would prevent him from face-planting on to the floor). he spends some time spitting up into a bag...and is eventually taken somewhere. aamc employees offered zero respect or compassion.

3. a woman was asking to see her husband who was admitted earlier. the white pony-tailed nurse YELLED at her more than once (I never noticed the woman was being a nuisance. it was the loud-mouthed nurse who drew my attention to the situation). the nurse carried on about how busy they were and that they needed time to do their jobs.

4. I am triaged reasonably quickly (came in at the direction of urgent care along with labs/diagnostics). a while later I'm called back for bloodwork. show my paperwork from urgent care, no blood taken and sent back to the waiting area for HOURS more wait time.

5. I'm in a room. now I DO need further blood work. it confirms what I don't have going on. an X-ray and ultrasound are ordered. X-ray is done relatively quickly. waiting and waiting for the ultrasound.

6. to the room. was it cleaned? I see gauze and a plastic syringe cap on the floor. after I'm brought back from radiology, I see dried blood on the floor (the bed had previously covered it)

7. ultrasound anyone? I hear a conversation about recent travel for a wedding and family living in/coming from other countries, etc. for at least 10 -15 mins. when it's over, in walks the ultrasound tech to take me for the long-awaited diagnostic. I'm with her for minimally an hour...lots of looking about, lots of chatting. she did discover some findings (I thought it was a gall bladder look, but evidently she went beyond, which was great). I have no fault with her skill. I do find it extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate that a good amount of time was spent chatting with colleagues. this isn't an office/desk job pushing paper...loads of people are waiting on diagnostics and beds to free up. I long suspected the extraordinary wait times were due to a lot of lollygagging behind the scenes...and there is. when I finally returned, "my" nurse said she was actually calling about and looking for me because I'd been gone far longer than she expected. (time at er was ~12 hrs. ~10hrs waiting )

8. I do thank the staff who helped me out. especially appreciate Nurse Maggie and the woman physician in training who stood in for the doctor (whom I saw briefly). [wish the white board had been updated w staff on duty.]

9. aamc er was never great. it definitely needs a process/employee overhaul. don't expect it tho as they are in bed w a private equity firm. de$troying everything to max profit$

I waited in the ER for 9 hrs!!! Do Not waste your time. And every nurse & Dr continuously asked me the same questions. You're not listened to! Worst Experience Ever!

After the multiple construction proje t for expansion, this hospital is not built to handle the size of the community. I don't understand why hospitals never seem to build for worse case when building.

I came in here a few months back due to numbness in my arm/extreme chest pain. When I walked in, there were two people max sitting in the waiting room. I stood by the front desk waiting for the person at the desk to let me know I could come up, so after minutes I walked up to say hello and was greeted very rudely. The triage nurse was really nice, got my vitals and everything. However, I sat there for over an hour. Normally I understand the wait, and in terms of ER wait times, an hour is nothing. But I never received an EKG or anything. So I eventually went up to the triage nurse to hand her the blood pressure cuff and explain that I needed to be seen soon and if I couldn't, I would just go to urgent care when they open. She responded "That's probably the best idea, hope you feel better." I understand that healthcare workers are consistently treated poorly and working such late shifts is extremely mentally taxing. But it's baffling that someone who presents with cardiac issues would have to wait for that long. I have also heard nurses say extremely disrespectful things about patients and their personal medical information in earshot distance, but that's a whole different conversation.

If you've ever been to a few a different hospitals- then you know this is all around a great hospital. From pediatric to regular ER- staff, process, experience.. Sometimes wait times are long- but thats expected in an ER! They hire quality people- so you're in good hands when you walk in the door. I feel lucky to live close and have access.

Really confused about the negative reviews.
ER’s have long waits. That will NEVER change. How can it with heart attacks, breathing issues and major stuff taking priority. Get real people!!!

Me:
Waiting room completely full during my 6PM visit. Yes my wait was long to get into a bed but in my case vitals and history were taken during wait.

All staff in ER waiting room were professional and courteous
My questions were adequately answered.

Once back in an ER Room it was the best ER experience of my life. Besides myself I have 9 younger siblings aging from ages 44 to 61. Additionally I have an adult daughter and a husband. That’s at least 30 ER experiences under my belt.

Care and Compassion-5Stars.
Communication 5Stars
Respect 5Stars
Pain mgmt 5Stars
They are a well oiled machine of wonderful medical professionals.
Additionally, everyone there seemed to like their jobs. OMG where do you see that anymore?

I came to pediatric ER recently with a call ahead from my child’s pediatrician. The staff was great. I appreciated that they have a child specialist to help with put the kids at ease with being in the hospital and help with the iv (to educate first then distract them while getting it).

The reason for 3 stars is the maintenance of the facility. The room that we had for our stay was not cleaned properly. There was pubic hair on the wall in the bathroom, the floor wasn’t swept or mopped, part of the blinds was missing (anyone passing by had a clear view into the room), the shower water had a brownish tint (even after letting it run for 5 minutes) and I saw a roach in the bathroom. Maintenance and proper cleaning goes a long way. Not sure if it was rushed, but some things should ever be rushed in a hospital setting.

My experiences at Luminis AAMC have been outstanding. I should note my experiences all have been scheduled procedures with the same (orthopedic) surgeon - so, granted, a narrow slice of Life at AAMC. That said, there are many, many people/roles that contributed something to my surgery and each was looking out for the others. Everyone did quality work. Never was there an "It's not my job". They listened to and acted on requests. Everyone seemed happy to be there. There's a lot of waiting around for elective surgery so I got to watch people in from reception, pre-op, post-op, recovery to discharge transport. No drama. No griping. Everyone helping wherever they could. I felt very well cared for.
