I don’t even know where to start! The whole experience was amazing! Very well put together menu that starts you off with zakuski and continues to some heavier dishes. We had salo, which I greatly missed from Ukraine, and carrot pashtet to start. Followed by borsch, which was out of this world and can easily compete with my mother’s borsch! Halushki (excellent choice), and holuptsy were great too. And don’t forget to get Pyana Vishnya aka Drunken Cherry! Great experience throughout. Can’t wait to come back and introduce more friends to Ukrainian cuisine.

Thank you, Johnny and Beverly and the whole Anelya team!

Excellent food and service. Fun take on eastern European cuisine. The trout roe tart was the best from the first course, the hummus is also very worth trying. Get all of the dumplings and noodles if you can, they are the star of the show. I'm not sure I'd consider this $$, you need to get a fair amount of dishes as the serving sizes are small, but all the food is delicious.

Such a fun and high quality meal at Anelya. They've got a unique set of cocktails and wines to start. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from Ukranian food, but everything from the carrot dip to the layered pasta to the mushrooms in broth was flavorful and delicious. Shared everything with a vegetarian friend and we were pleased at all of the delicious vegetarian options. Can't wait to come back and try the meat and fish dishes!

Had a wonderful meal just after Christmas here. Growing up Georgian I had SOME point of reference for some dishes we share but the versions presented here were amazing.

Highlights were all the Zakusky, brought out on a small cart (love this approach to let people who are unfamiliar with some dishes SEE the product and order something they might not have) including the pickled herring, fried olives, and the trout roe tart that wouldn’t be out of place as a fine dining tasting menu canapé.

Borsch was incredible, and I hate beets. Beautiful flavor from the smoked pears, soft/garlicky Pampushky bread on the side was a great suggestion from our lovely server.

Varyneky from the dumplings great as well. Chicken shashlik was a good main, not our favorite but still solid. We’ll do the kovbasa next time. Broccoli salad was a nice refreshing side.

Cocktails were excellent, mine (forgot the name) felt like an herbal, less sweet negroni riff. Dessert was a highlight, loved the plum dish which was light and refreshing and JUST sweet enough.

This is a special restaurant and I’m glad we did it while we were in town for just a few days. I’ll be back next time.

We just tried this place with some friends and I have to say, we can’t wait to go back!!! The food was absolutely OUTSTANDING and Helena took such good care of us. We literally licked our plates clean. I was born in Kiyv, Ukraine and came to the US when I was only 9 years old. I grew up on Ukrainian food and I honestly can tell you that I have already texted my parents to tell them that I can’t wait to take them here when they come visit Chicago!!! Love this place!!! ❤️

An absolute must for dining in 2024, Anelya is likely the most authentic, tasty and unique dining experience one can have. Blown away from the “Tower” to dumplings, broths, meats, fish and pickled vegetables. A Ukrainian masterpiece in the making from the creators of Parachute just down the road. We ordered just about the entire menu (30 items) between our four foodies and can’t recall having this much fun enjoying this creative tour de force of chefs sending dishes out from the open kitchen. Magic is happening nightly here so check it out!

I came here for my anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed! Everything we tried was delicious, fresh, and an innovative take on traditional dishes. I was very impressed and so was my date!

This would probably be best characterized as a Ukrainian tapas restaurant. Problem for me is that I always feel that with tapas, you spend a lot, and only get a little, but if you can get past that, than this restaurant has much to offer. The carrot pate was nice, but you need to be able to spread it on something...ie their delicious bread basket, but the bread basket itself is a separately purchased appetizer. Seems to me that the bread basket should be included in this app. It's the equivalent of ordering hummus and having to pay extra for the pita. Fried/stuffed olives were unique, albeit minimalist (you get two...again, the tapas thing). The borscht was really nice and hearty. I personally don't think one needs to purchase the pampushky (garlic bread) with it, despite the recommendation of our server. It's good as a standalone, and if anything the garlic bread would hide some of the nicer flavors of the borscht. The BBQ chicken dish was excellent, and imo, the highlight of our choices. Excellent flavor profile, very tender, great presentation. Broccoli dish made for a nice and refreshing complement to this. While admittedly I wasn't expecting this, the plum dessert was surprisingly good. As for drinks, some unique choices for sure. Again, on the small side. Total bill, with tax and tip, was a little over $200 for party of 2. I guess this is par for course in 2024 but still seems pricey in context of portion sizes. Would come back, but order with more precision given our experience.
