TOP important and interesting reviews from patients
- I use Northwestern for all the serious stuff. I had OK gynecological surgery. Well done, minimal scarring, no issues post op.
I also delivered my baby here. I've had none of the issues that I've heard of other people at other hospitals having. They honored my birth plan, the birthing and post birth suites were nice, clean, and private. Amazing view. Decent food for hospital food. A good food court. I can tell that the doctors are busy but still to to make time to make sure you feel heard.
- My sister was transferred to the ICU from a community hospital in the western suburbs. She was unconscious, was on a vent and had multiple health issues. As her POA, the doctors and nurses kept me well informed. The most wonderful part was that they let me stay 24/7 with her as I lived in the far western suburbs and the daily commute would be horrible. The ICU floor has a clean family room shower and they let me sit/sleep in the room with her. The ICU chairs were a bit uncomfortable but it had a window sill that was wide enough to sleep on my side. The staff brought me a pillow and blankets and were extremely nice. Every procedure was explained and they were able to successfully address my sister's medical issues. The transplant team came in and explained that she should be monitored because she would eventually need a transplant. They explained what insurance she'd need for a transplant and gave us a lot of wonderful information.
My BIGGEST regret is that we didn't go to Northwestern for the transplant because it was too far (and admittedly scary) to drive during rush hour. I will regret that decision the rest of my life. Instead we went to RUSH where they put in a liver that went to cirrhosis in 6 months and have since learned that wasn't unusual for RUSH.
