New York City, 300 W 145th St, New York, NY 10039

If you’re living in Central Harlem or Sugar Hill, you know that finding a grocery store with actual elbow room is like finding a parking spot on a Saturday—nearly impossible. That’s why Super Foodtown of Bradhurst at 300 W 145th St is such a local staple. Located right on the corner of Frederick Douglass Blvd in the 10039 zip code, this place is huge compared to your typical NYC market. For those of us in the neighborhood, it’s the go-to anchor for a full weekly shop because it’s clean, well-lit, and actually stocks the stuff you need for a real family dinner.

The biggest benefit of shopping here is the massive variety of fresh produce and international foods. They do a great job of catering to the Harlem community, stocking everything from plantains and specialty peppers to high-end organic greens in their "Naturally Foodtown" section. If you’re trying to eat healthier but don’t want to pay those "boutique" prices, their selection of gluten-free, vegan, and non-dairy items is honestly one of the best in Upper Manhattan. Their full-service butcher and seafood counter are also big draws—the staff will actually cut your meat to order, which is a nice "old-school" touch you don't see much anymore.

What really distinguishes the Bradhurst Foodtown is the convenience for busy New Yorkers. They have an on-site pharmacy, so you can drop off a prescription and get all your grocery shopping done while you wait. Even better for those of us living in walk-ups, they offer fast local delivery and curbside pickup through their app. If you’ve ever tried to lug four bags of groceries and a case of water up three flights of stairs in July, you know exactly why this is a lifesaver. Plus, the aisles are wide enough that you aren't constantly apologizing for bumping into people with your cart.

The vibe is very much "neighborhood hub." You’ll see everyone from long-time residents to newcomers and college students grabbing their essentials. They have a Club Card rewards program that genuinely helps lower the bill at checkout, especially on store-brand staples that are already a good deal. It’s a reliable, high-quality anchor for the 145th Street corridor that makes living in Harlem a lot more convenient. Whether you’re grabbing a rotisserie chicken for a quick Tuesday night meal or stocking up for a Sunday cookout, this Foodtown is an essential part of the community.

I've been shopping here for quite some time, contributing thousands of dollars, and I was recently shown that my loyalty to this company meant little to nothing.

I returned to the store about a day after a representative from customer service informed me that I may make an exchange for the correct coffee creamer that I purchased after I admitted to opening the product.

The day I returned, I spoke with a different sales representative who eventually directed me to the manager, Felix. Felix told her to tell me (even though I was standing right there) that I would not allow me to exchange the item because it was opened. Faithfully, the representative echoed his words (even though I was standing right there) and walked away.

I approached Felix and asked if he may grant me this one-time exception, reasoning that I've been a faithful customer, have invested plenty of money into the establishment, had no intent on cheating the company, and that if anyone can bear the burden of waste, it would be Foodtown, based on my patronage.

Without recognizing my loyalty to the company, Felix subjected me to a crude interrogation seeking to undermine me. I couldn't help but feel as though Felix's condescending tone and his presumption that I was a crook stemmed from racial microaggressions. I was met with disregard, disrespect, and disappointment, and after being interrogated and having my card scanned to determine my customer-spending / loyalty card level, I was permitted to make the exchange.

No one should have to go through the process I went through. My faith in this company dropped exponentially, and a warning to all patrons of this store: Seemingly, we are simply a financial resource, our "customer loyalty cards" are a means to get us to spend more on already over-priced items, and the moment you cost the company a few dollars, they will shun you away.

Further, most of the cashiers are ill-mannered, unprofessional, and always sizing people up.

This not an establishment worthy of longevity.

Pros: they have a lot of stuff from American, Latin, Caribbean cuisines. Always well-stocked.

Cons: so expensive and slow you want to cry. Once TJs opens on 125th it's over for this place. Even the rice is too expensive.

Overall, it's there if you need one thing and don't have time to go to a more affordable store but do have time to wait on the slowest lines ever with like 2 checkers total.

Just had to walk out they have about 4 registers open and about 5 workers standing near customer service looking around. It makes no sense. Some of us are not tryna be in there for two hours just standing in line. And then they won’t help you check out at customer service even though there are 5 of them standing there. Do better!
