TOP important and interesting reviews from patients

Eric that is a night nurse on the 8th Floor is absolutely amazing. My husband HATES HATES HATES hospitals. Can never get him to go. But Eric has made him feel less anxious & more comfortable about having to be here. He took really great care of him after his motorcycle accident. He always made sure he was taken care of & comfortable. Actually had knowledge & helpful information for us. He went above & beyond his normal duties. He treats you like a friend more than a patient. He even got me drinks & food in the middle of the night. I'm very grateful for him & so thankful he is our nurse.

He DEFINITELY deserves & needs a raise. THANK YOU ERIC!

If you’re dying, in desperate need, got an emergency, or got anything serious going on or probably in danger this hospital emergency room is NOT the place to go. I’ve been sitting here for 3 hours waiting for a doctor while the nurses & staff just keep walking up & down the halls, sitting down laughing, eating, etc . Waste it time for real

**Update : Ok the wait was pretty long but I’m updating my one star to 5 stars. The doctor, nurse & other techs assigned to me was very helpful & helped me with what exactly I came in for. TMI I had a lil grown people accident with my partner this morning & the protection got stuck if you know what I mean. They took urine sample, did blood work to test for infectious diseases, they also sent me home with an FREE at home test & gave me some meds for my protection & also gonna follow up with me in 90 days wow lol I jumped the gun with them on my first review , I’m VERY GRATEFUL TO THE STAFF HERE , THANK YOU !!!

Awesome county hospital!!! They have a senior care center that is absolutely perfect for the care of grandma. Everything is in one place and works so seamlessly. The food is delicious, I love their breakfast. They don't have valet right now but they do have metal detectors.

My father in law was admitted from a nursing facility. We believed the staff was great and they were taking good care of him, so this review is not a reflection on most of the nurses.
My mother in law was going to see him. She stepped on the elevator, pressed her button, and noticed after a few seconds that the doors were not closing so she began to step out of the elevator and the doors closed on her and forced her to fall backwards. A security guard had to take her over to the ER. Thank you to that man.
The fall resulted in 2 breaks and required surgery and admission. The incident was reported immediately to guest experience. They have been giving us a run around for 2 weeks and while I realize things take time, they are TERRIBLE at communication. Always saying they will call us back but never following through. They don’t actually care about your experience. Not one person has called to check on her since she was transferred to another facility. To top this all off, my father in law passed away this week after they sent him back to his nursing facility, dispute being concerned about his aspirating the day before!!! We’re not sure if she will make it to her husband’s (of 60 years) funeral. The facility she is in now says someone needs to move in with her for her to be able to come home safely.
My mother in law would not usually be the type of person to sue someone but she would want you to know how negligent and careless this facility is before you bring someone you love here.

My brother has been going back and fourth for a whole month and a half in pain. Just for them to send him home saying he will be fine. He finally goes to another hospital and come to find he has a bad infection. Why do you work in this field if you don’t care…

I gave birth here. I did not have a working shower or TV for the 6 days they would not let me leave after delivering. My baby had jaundice, so that's fair about keeping us. However, no one listened. IT WAS DEHUMANIZING TO SIT IN MY OWN FILFTH FOR THAT LONG- HELPLESS, NO CLOTHES, NO SHOWER. A new mother, left to rot. No one did anything (they could have moved me to a room with a shower?) so I didn't get one for almost a full week after giving birth. No. One. Cared. The nurses (save for 2 or 3) did not listen to me and kept making comments about my weight. They will not listen to you, they will not let you decide what is best for you, and it will take hours for another epidural after your first one failed. I mentioned my postpartum room was very warm (I had my delivery room on 65 because I was so hot, which nurse Stephanie made sure to note every single time she opened my door) and she said, "It's not about you anymore." I could have guessed that from the broken shower and the sink that also didn't work in the bathroom. They also do not listen when you tell them NO! or that you're in pain. I would have signed an AMA the next day had my baby not needed light therapy just to get away from the horrible, traumatizing experience that should have been one of the most beautiful moments of my life. Under-prepared, understaffed, and rude. That's how I would describe most of the staff that I had to deal with. I saw my doctor ONE TIME (this was the ONLY TIME I met him even though 3 months of pregnancy appts. were at Eskenazi) and the delivery doctor I did have copped an attitude because my baby "wasn't pushed out enough." There is so, so much more, but if you take ANYTHING away from this: DO NOT GO TO ESKENAZI TO GIVE BIRTH. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. And the patient experience people? Some of the nicer ones, but they will do absolutely nothing to actually help you or make you feel better. Save yourself the trauma I still haven't been able to work through, and its been 8 months.

I honestly wish I would have checked the reviews before going here. It all started in the ambulance my person that did my IV broke the needle in me. So after how many hours I was there they told me we will get another Iv started so they can put meds in me … never did. I was discharged worse than what I came in. I have medical experience so it’s not my first rodeo. Now I can’t even bend my arm.

I will like to say this … a friend of mine who moved here with his kid few weeks ago was at the emergency with his son .. his son was coughing terribly and he needed a blanket while waiting to be attended to … the nurse he asked refused to give him one cos she said it was going to be a violation..:I’m really surprised and I don’t know where to put my confusion that’s why I came to the reviews… I don’t want to believe there is a law that states a blanket can’t be given to a sick kid at a hospital … it’s a very strange law as I believe an hospital is supposed to be a healing place .

This place is pathetic; rude employees And you need to get a new receptionist. My son was in a wreck and had to have surgery here. You are better off going to Methodist Hospital. I called my daughter-in-law to check on him. She didn't answer, so I called the hospital. The receptionist replied, and I provided her with why I was calling to check on him and asked if I could please speak to a nurse on the 3rd floor. And this receptionist dared to say(Do you want me to have them stop surgery to talk to you) I explained to her look, this is the first time we have ever been here. And it will be our last.

I'm still sick I've been almost 3 times with the same issues. However they do nothing unless it's more of a vital or orthopedic issue. Everytime I've gone they only gave me IV hydration which helps but doesn't fix the issue and theyre too quick to give heavy pain medications (which concerns me seeing the uprising pain pill/medication abuse in indianapolis) . I understand the short staffing but I've been sick and without insurance and this hospital has not eased my suffering even when I had health insurance.

Between this hospital and Community East; they are the worst in patient services. I’m homeless so I understand why weapons cannot be brought into the building. However, I’ve been in eskenazi twice within a week, with 2 pocket knives and a corkscrew. That doesn’t exactly prevent patients from using ANY weapon. I’m sure you can end someone’s life with a chair. It be nice if security would at least hold onto them. So, since I can’t bring them in, I stuck them IN a tree. And I walked 7.9 (after midnight) miles because I couldn’t re-enter with said weapons and call for a insurance cab

There is no way I could explain the POOR level of care by brother received from this hospital. I have so many words that to summarize it in to just a short paragraph would be impossible. And to be clear this is on his level of care, not the surgeries he received, I am not qualified to say it was good or bad, but from what I can surmise is it was "good" and the nursing staff was very good to him. But the Residents, my gosh, have to be the worse of the worse. I know they are "TRAINING" doctors but you would think there would be some kind of training on how to deal with patience after the procedures done. But NO or they did not pay attending in that class. They are condescending, short, argent, and some times flat out rude, but that is only when they are their, and good luck finding one of them for more then 30 seconds to talk to you! They treated him poorly when he was in pain and I can only guess they have a deal with Tylenol because after surgery that is there go to choice of pain meds. I've complained to the patient experience office more than once in regards to the matter, but as I was told "We can only suggest, because they are the doctors". Any ways my suggestion is to never find yourself in need of this hospital if you can. I know that I will get a auto generated email saying something to the fact that "We are sorry you have had such a bad experience with us, please contact us so we can discuss it further" But sadly my guess is that is where it will end. Real change comes from someone wanting to change and it did not seem like that was in the works to me

Update: Got the automated response on queue!

Been sitting for almost 3 hours. My son is sick fever sore throat and a headache. My second visit came earlier it was packed. Thought it would be better late . But was definitely wrong. I just don't understand why it's just so long to get seen or helped.

I came for the first time and when I got there I cold-shouldered the security guard real easily. I had a lighter with me which he said was okay to bring. Then the second time coming and arriving, a different security guard said it’s not allowed, and I was open carrying because in my head I said if they allow lighters surely they don’t mind firearms, but they didn’t think it was cool. So I have to leave my hunting rifle outside. Thankfully no one stole it. 5 out of 5.

My husband is in the military and went there for a muscle he sprained in the back, he’s on workman’s comp.. he can’t go back to work til this doctor signs the paperwork, last name Stepsis is the doctor and I personally think he shouldn’t be a doctor or he should loose his license for not signing the paperwork when it states he himself has to sign it and he keeps refusing. Screw this hospital and screw that doctor, yall ain’t getting paid then if y’all ain’t gonna sign this paper

Just had inpatient surgery here. It had been nearly 10 years since I visited this hospital as I had previously lost my trust in the ER department when they missed a diagnosis. Anyways, the ER still isn't great which is why I took away a star, but my inpatient experience was really good. My room on the 8th floor was nice, the food was good, and my nurses all of whom were male were awesome! The surgical team had great bedside manner and helped keep me calm for my first surgery ever. They do tons of surgeries so they know their stuff. The surgical tech used some pretty good distraction techniques so I wouldn't even realize they were knocking me out as I was TERRIFIED of that part. They prescribed adequate pain medication, in fact a little too good as I don't like meds that make me dopey but I mean I did just have surgery lol. My dad left his wallet in the room and the housekeeper turned it in the nurse brought it down to us in the pharmacy so we didn't have to go all the way back up and yes they have a pharmacy too so you can get your meds on your way out! Overall would definitely get a surgery here again, just would avoid the silly eR dept who took 3 hours to even give an ekg to someone complaining on chest pain, good thing it was gull bladder and not heart attack.

The woman that answered the phone at 2:05 on 10/31 was horribly rude, kept interrupting me while I was trying to speak and getting irritated that I didn’t immediately know exactly where she should transfer my call to. We were on the phone for less than 1 minute together and it was the most irritating minute of my life.

* Pros: I tend to use this as my "go to" hospital; I think I've been treated extremely well by the various branches and services of this hospital.
* Cons: It's extremely possible that I don't know what I'm talking about, with my healthcare or my life.
