We flew in on Christmas Day to Las Vegas. We arrived at Hertz about 8:00 pm. We are GOLD members and went to pick out our car. There were very few cars left. We picked one and when we got to the gate to check out and leave and we were told there were mechanical issues with the car and had to turn around and find a different car. We were so exhausted and had to turn around, unpack and reload our luggage. We were left with a car we didn't want, but had no choice. BTW, there was nothing on the first car to let us know there were mechanical issues with the car. This would have saved us SO much time and energy.
We went to check out and extremely loud alarms were going off telling us to evacuate. The computers were down and we were stuck inside the garage and were unable to leave. We found out there was a fire inside the car rental garage. It took a long time until the computer was up to check us out. Everyone kept saying to evacuate, but the gates were locked down. Finally, the computers were up and we were able to get out. There were tons of fire engines and we still don't know what exactly happened. It was so scary and an awful way to spend Christmas and no one EVER offered us any sort of compensation.

Very bad experience. We had reserved and prepaid almost a month ago for a one way rental from directly the Hertz website. Our flight landed on time at 11.30pm but our baggage was delayed making us reach at rental center at 1.30 AM very tired of our east to west travel. Upon arrival we waited 30 mins in queue with two very slow and rude workers. Customers were sent back for some or other reason and they came back and took their time again not making the queue progress. Finally reached the counter and they told me they could not rent me the vehicle as they cannot find my reservation. I showed the confirmation email, the driver license etc. but they said only way they can find my reservation is using the credit card that was used to book the vehicle. Unfortunately, my bank had sent me a replacement card during the month after i made the car reservation om the website. It had a new card number. They told me I had to call customer service and update my credit card on the reservation. This was not possible till 5.30am because the customer service is shut down from 11.30 PM to 5.30AM. Manager at location was clueless how to help and told me to move away from counter. We waited till 5.30am for customer service to open. They said they could not update the reservation because it was past the time of reservation start time. All they could do is cancel and give me refund for my reservation. I requested a new reservation at the same price I paid before. But both the manager at location and customer service offered a reservation more than twice the cost of my original reservation. Eventually tired of arguing with them we had to pay $800 more and make a new reservation. I told them this is very unfair and I want a senior manager to talk to me right now. I was promised a call back but it never came. For such a reputed big rental company, their business process was flawed and customer service lacking any empathy. I will refrain from booking Hertz even if it is lowest peices from this point forward.
