H Mart LA K-Town (Koreatown Plaza)

Located at 928 S Western Ave, H Mart LA K-Town is a flagship urban market situated on the ground level of the historic Koreatown Plaza. While many H Marts are sprawling suburban warehouses, this location is an upscale, high-density shopping experience that captures the sophisticated energy of Los Angeles' Koreatown—the largest and most concentrated Korean district in the United States.

The Western Ave Highlights

The "Koreatown Plaza" Legacy: This store is uniquely part of a tri-level indoor mall that opened in 1988 as K-Town’s first large-scale shopping center. Shopping here isn't just a grocery run; it’s an afternoon spent exploring a "mini-city" filled with high-end boutiques, jewelry stores, and specialized gift shops.

The "Gourmet Garden" Produce: Known for its "Disneyland of flavor" produce section, this location stocks rare and unusual Korean roots and herbs. It is particularly famous for its high-quality Shine Muscat grapes, Korean pears, and seasonal vegetables that are often fresher and more varied than at smaller neighborhood markets.

Specialized Donkatsu & Dining: While the store itself is a medium-sized market, the building features a renowned base-level dining hall. Regulars specifically visit for the Donkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) stalls and the in-house street food vendors selling Bungeo-ppang (fish-shaped pastries) made to order.

The "Sashimi-Grade" Butcher: Because it caters to a high-income urban demographic, the meat and seafood departments are exceptionally curated. You’ll find meticulously marbled wagyu and paper-thin sliced beef for tabletop BBQ, alongside a dedicated counter for fresh oysters and premium sashimi platters.

K-Culture Pop-Ups: This location frequently feels the "Hallyu" (Korean Wave) more than others. It is a prime spot to find BTS-themed coffee, viral Korean snacks, and an extensive K-Beauty section featuring trending brands often mentioned in skincare forums.

Why It’s Unique

H Mart LA K-Town is defined by its "Boutique Flagship" status. It replaced the old "Plaza Market" in 2019 to become one of the chain’s most modern urban outposts. It is uniquely social and interactive—on weekends, you’ll find "wonderfully vocal" Korean women handing out samples of sizzling dumplings or tea, and the plaza itself features themed photo booths where you can dress up for pictures after shopping.

Insider Tip: Parking in K-Town can be a nightmare, but this H Mart provides 3 hours of free parking with validation in the plaza’s garage—a massive perk for the area. If you're looking for a quieter experience, visit on a weekday morning when the Triangle Kimbap is freshly delivered and the aisles are wide enough for a leisurely stroll.

I used to shop here frequently, the layout isn't the greatest and it's pretty dark + cramped. Last night security denied my entry due to having a cooler backpack, and tbh I won't be back for a while. I'm getting tired of this alongside the single use bag ban & remember clearly bringing this up when it got passed. Walking outside I complained and someone at an urban camp commented "it's cuz you steal" For sure, so does Hmart. The street outside is filthy and the parking lot full of cars steal my oxygen and the security steals my experience as a customer routinely for no real reason.

This is a genuine Korean Market. I love these photo booths you can dress up or down get pics from $8-$16. I also went to the market and found some ttbouki (I think spelled wrong) plus a bunch of foods been wanting to try from my favorite Korean shows.

H. Market has several stores, but I often go there regardless of the weather because I like the large indoor parking lot. Since it is in Koreatown, there are sometimes discounted products, so on lucky days, I can get a good deal. The freshness of vegetables, fruits, and especially meat and fish is good, so if there is a family event, I must visit and shop here.

This is one of my favorite places to shop when I'm in town. I really should learn Korean beyond barely puzzling out a little hangeul here and there, though. The food court down the hall is not to be missed, and the parking validation deal is a very good one. There are also a couple of solid coffee shops in the mall. A nice way to spend a bit of time and, these days, a chunk of change.

They have most of everything with good prices. If you like to get K-food. Packed and ready to eat. Ready to cook. Any type of K food will be your choice.

Staff is rude particularly the cashiers. They look miserable. Parking is $15 for an hour unless you spend $30. Go up the street to another, better Korean market.

Excellent service. I love that they provide gloves upon entry. I felt perfectly safe when I was shopping because I know they take all the necessary measures to ensure health safety and I appreciate it. Store was very clean. Number one in cleanliness. Number one in fresh produce and meat. Excellent selection of food items. I recommend this store to everyone.
*Update 11/2023 the last few times I've been here they don't carry Enoki mushroom anymore. Too bad. It's my favorite

A good amount of Korean stores with a lot of Korean products. The food court has some good food and it's not far from other locations in K-town.

I love this H-Mart. First of all, the food court in the plaza is best kept secret in LA. Ton Katsu counter - gets you FED! Or lighter fare, stop chasing trucks and get Korean tacos. The store carries all the same international foods, fresh fish counter, and wines. Great freezer and veggies section. I love the o-dango and steam cake! Prices are decent considering and never chaotic like Vons or Ralph's. Parking is easy and safe.

This place has changed. Not the same in my opinion. Even the non food items are not the same as before. Simple things like metal Korean drink cups (no more). Metal Korean utensils (no more). The hours too are 9am not 8am on the weekends. The meat selection used to be good but now it is over priced for the marinated meats.
