El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza: The Charred Heart of Hallandale
712 Atlantic Shores Blvd, Hallandale Beach, FL
Forget everything you know about "fast-food" pizza. El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza is a love letter to the ancient art of the flame. Located on the sun-bleached corridor of Atlantic Shores Blvd, this isn't just a pizzeria—it’s a culinary hearth where the intense, dry heat of coal creates a crust that is, quite frankly, a masterpiece of physics.
While most of Florida is cooling off in the AC, El Tamarindo is leaning into the heat to deliver a flavor profile that only 800 degrees and raw coal can produce.
The Alchemy of the Coal Oven
The "Leopard" Crust: Thanks to the coal fire, the dough undergoes a beautiful transformation—bubbling and blistering into a "leopard-spotted" crust. It’s thin, crackling, and carries a subtle smokiness that you simply cannot replicate in a gas or electric oven.
A Latin Infusion: The name "El Tamarindo" hints at the soul behind the sauce. This isn't just Italian tradition; it’s a fusion of passion. You’ll find the classics, but you’ll also find bold, vibrant flavors that reflect the multicultural heartbeat of Hallandale Beach.
The "Wings" Factor: Regulars know the secret: don't just come for the pie. Their coal-fired chicken wings, roasted in the same inferno with onions and herbs, are legendary. They’re juicy, charred, and devoid of the greasy heaviness of a deep fryer.
The Hallandale Vibe
The atmosphere is "sophisticated casual." It’s the kind of place where you can walk in with sand still on your flip-flops from the beach or dress up for a Friday night date. With its warm lighting and the rhythmic sound of the pizza peel hitting the oven floor, it feels like a neighborhood secret that everyone is suddenly in on.

- Our group goes once a month to this warm, welcoming venue. Without exception everyone loves the food. Service is friendly, discreet and prompt.
Favoritesxare super pizzas, great chicen wings and parmesean dishes.
- inconspicuous outside and beautiful inside! All the staff are super polite and nice. Nice atmosphere and great food. I was with the kids today and for the first time lunch in a restaurant was so relaxed!
- Someone said this place was a hidden gem in Hollywood. Let me second this 200%. Say, 400%. The pizza is terrific. Baked in a woodfire oven at a high temperature. This makes for a dough that is light, crispy, and NOT floury, unlike other pizzas baked at much lower temperatures. Service was superb, and we had an amazing sit-down meal for $20 per person (yeah, make sure you try those unique chicken wings, too!). This IS a hidden gem. My only regret? Finding this restaurant at the end of my trip to Florida. Otherwise they would have seen me often. I will be sure to eat there again as soon as I come back to Hollywood.
