Dr. Russo is a third-generation orthopedic surgeon in Scottsdale, AZ specializing in total hip and knee replacement surgery and has now performed over 3000 joint replacements since his fellowship training. He feels very grateful to have the opportunity to serve the Phoenix community as an orthopedic surgeon, just as his father and grandfather have done, for over 30 years.
Dr. Russo believes it is essential to listen to patients and to treat them just as he would his own family members. He was specifically drawn to hip and knee replacements because he finds it rewarding to play a role in the transformation of patients whose lives have been limited by their condition and to help return them to the everyday activities and lifestyle they previously enjoyed.

- I had a total knee replacement 10 years ago and it did not go well. My knee eventually stop bending, I was walking around with a straight leg. I had to always sit in an Isle seat because my knee did not bend, I had a hard time going up stairs. I went and saw more then one surgeon to get their opinions. When I saw Dr. Russo he said if anyone can fix your knee I can. It took me a year or two for me to finally get the courage to have a total revision done after what I went through the first time. It was a long surgery and 8 months of physical therapy. I am so grateful to Dr. Russo. I can walk and sit with two feet on the ground. Dr. Russo is the best, I can not thank him enough for giving me my quality of life back.

But I, the Phoenix Magazine “Top Doc” selection committee, and a legion of complimentary reviewers seem to overwhelmingly agree that he’s succeeded!
Having suffered from a bum hip for years, I finally decided to get it replaced. Careful research of numerous highly-rated surgeons in the area led me to Dr. Russo. A wise, fortunate choice! I won’t pretend it was a quick, easy, totally pain-free, inexpensive process. But considering the huge benefits realized, well worth it. (I’m optimistically moving away from dunking donuts towards the basketballs from my glory days pending a similar future “medical miracle” on my knee!) As a scientist, I’m very impressed with Dr. Russo’s relevant knowledge/experience as well as ability to clearly explain his diagnosis and corrective strategy to the patient. (Not to mention his laudable charity work. And sense of humor!) Kudos to his support staff — especially PA-C Natanya, Scheduler Liz, Imaging Techs Kim and Alvin, Pre-screener Nurse Jessie, and Receptionists Janae and Veola. Likewise, Anesthetist Dr. Rahman and her staff. And last but not least, a most helpful Hospitalist Dr. Agha in addition to the excellent nurses, therapists, case manager, cafeteria, security, and clerical personnel at the fine HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.
