Richmond, 1 Richard E Byrd Terminal Dr, Richmond, VA 23250

If you’re traveling through Central Virginia, Richmond International Airport (RIC) at 1 Richard E Byrd Terminal Dr is easily the most stress-free way to start your trip. Located just about seven miles southeast of downtown, it’s the perfect size—big enough to get you wherever you need to go with major airlines like Delta, Southwest, and American, but small enough that you won’t feel like you’re running a marathon to find your gate. It’s got a great "hometown" feel, with a clean, modern terminal that actually makes flying feel a little less like a chore.

One of the best things about RIC is how much it embraces the local Richmond vibe. Before you board, you can grab a solid breakfast or a locally roasted coffee at Ironclad Coffee Roasters or sit down for a meal at Applebee’s or Cross Grain Brewhouse. If you’re a history buff, keep an eye out for the Civil War-era artifacts and cool nautical artwork scattered throughout the building—it definitely beats staring at a blank wall. Plus, the free Wi-Fi is actually fast, and there are plenty of charging stations, so you can stay productive (or just keep the kids entertained) while you wait.

Parking and getting around is where this airport really shines for us locals. The Economy Lots are a steal at about $10 a day, and the EasyPark shuttles run 24/7, so you’re never stranded even if your flight gets in past midnight. If you’re just dropping someone off, the hourly garage gives you the first 60 minutes for free, which is a total lifesaver. For those who want to skip the car altogether, the GRTC bus service connects the airport directly to the city, and the rideshare pickup areas are clearly marked and easy to find on both the upper and lower levels.

The airport is a 24-hour facility, so the building itself never closes, but you’ll want to time your arrival right for security. The TSA checkpoints usually open up at 4:00 AM and stay busy until about 8:00 PM, or until the last scheduled departure. Most of the restaurants and shops, like the Hudson News stands, open around 4:30 AM or 5:00 AM and stay open until the last flight leaves. If you’re arriving on a late-night red-eye, just head down to the lower level where the baggage claim and rental car counters stay ready to help you get on your way.

JetBlue flight arrived late because of their flight attendant being late. It arrived in Richmond late enough for everyone flying to Boston to miss their Sunday evening connection. They issued new tickets for the morning but JetBlue agent and manager refused to give out hotel vouchers leaving passengers stranded at the airport. Somehow they blamed passengers for not staying an extra night in Orlando or not taking a flight to Rhode Island instead of Boston (?). Customer support on the phone was also baffled by this decision and promised to issue reimbursements. Of course, not mentioned is work time missed on Monday. Richmond should make sure that local airline managers follow basic customer care standards of not leaving passengers stranded at the airport when their airline dropped the ball with their connection.

Airport representative of Richmond. Wants to be so nice but just lacking in amenities and just striving at being a 3rd tier city.

Pro: Clean, and easy to get through security most of the time.
Cons:
- The lack of restaurants and dining options. Especially for early flight (one past security)
- Lack of charging at seats.
- Lack of water fountains to fill water bottles.

In lieu of recent reports, I felt necessary to commend & thank the Richmond International Airport TSA on creating the exact experience I expect when flying. It was smooth, no unnecessary hand pat downs, no over exertion of authority. These folks get a rough rap, but thankful for the women and men of Richmond Airports TSA for setting a great standard. I appreciate y'all

American Airlines and TSA pre check got us through very quickly with time to spare! Parking was relatively easy as well.

Incredibly slow deicing on a very light snow day. Extreme delays and whole flight is missing connections RIC and UA are terrible today. Dec 11
2 hour and 15 minute delay for a 30 minute flight. Ground crew de-iced 4 planes during that time. There was no ability to handle a volume of planes

I've sat on the tarmac waiting for ramp staff to guide our plane to the gate many times here.

Beautiful airport. The people are helpful and friendly. My wife accidentally spilled her soda and the man pushing her wheelchair twice went and got paper towels to clean up

I am disabled. I asked how far was the gateway......lol....IT WAS THE LAST ONE....PLUS with security, it took a while.

All that wasted space for what purpose. Does Richmond think they will be the next Charlotte.

High taxes, crime, poor schools, I dont think so.

Now with Monument Ave. Destroyed....grafitti on Mr Bojangles. A sad city.
