When The Home Depot was founded in 1978, Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank had no idea how revolutionary this new “hardware store” would be for home improvement and the retail industry.

Today, we’re proud to be the world’s largest home improvement retailer. In more than 2,300 stores across North America, we aspire to excel in service – to our customers, associates, communities and shareholders. That’s what leadership means to us. That's The Home Depot difference.

Our founders' vision of one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourselfer came to fruition when they opened the first two Home Depot stores on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. The first stores, at around 60,000 square feet each, were cavernous warehouses that dwarfed the competition and stocked 25,000 products, much more than the average hardware store at that time.

Today, The Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement retailer with approximately 475,000 orange-blooded associates and more than 2,300 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The typical store today averages 105,000 square feet of indoor retail space, interconnected with an e-commerce business that offers more than one million products for the DIY customer, professional contractors, and the industry's largest installation business for the Do-It-For-Me customer.

I recently visited Home Depot to buy a rat trap and was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of products they offer. While the selection for rat traps was a bit limited, I was amazed by the extensive variety of other home equipment they had available. From tools to appliances and everything in between, the store seemed to have something for every home improvement need. The quality of the products was impressive, and the staff was helpful in assisting me with my purchase. Even though my initial purpose was specific, I left the store feeling impressed by the diverse options they provide for various home improvement projects.

I seldom write reviews, but I want to do it this time. I don't know about other Home Depot stores, but this one is so lousy, there's absolutely no customer support/help. A bunch of employees standing or walking around, avoiding eye contact with customers; because either they are super lazy, or they are completely clueless. This is not an isolated thing; this is ALL THE TIME. I just know that if I go to this store, I will get no help whatsoever. Last occasion: I stand in Aisle 16, needing some wires, employees walk around, I ask for help, they will call for help (because they themselves are clueless). No one shows up, so I go to the registers, a bunch of employees hanging out. I ask for help, they call for help on the megaphone. I wait in the isle, no one shows up. Whole 15 minutes. What a joke! So I left and I drove to the Payless Rockery. They have always staff who are knowledgeable and willing to help.

Some of the employees are very nice and helpful and some of the employees just ignore you
