Thai Hut Market: Your Neighborhood Source for Thai and Asian Groceries
Quick Answers

Thai Hut Market is a dedicated Asian grocery store located at 9820 Potranco Rd in San Antonio, TX, operated by the well-known local family behind the popular Thai Hut Restaurants. Situated just down the street from their original restaurant location, this market specializes in authentic Thai ingredients, fresh produce, and essential pan-Asian staples. Whether you're looking to recreate your favorite Pad Thai at home, source hard-to-find herbs, or simply browse a great selection of imported snacks, Thai Hut Market offers a highly convenient, localized shopping experience on the city's West Side.

The Story and Mission of Thai Hut Market

The Thai Hut brand has been a staple in the San Antonio culinary scene since 1982, when they opened their first restaurant near SeaWorld. Recognizing that many of their loyal customers struggled to find the authentic ingredients needed to cook traditional Thai meals at home, the owners expanded their footprint to include the Thai Hut Market. Their mission is straightforward: to make genuine Thai and pan-Asian ingredients easily accessible to the local community, eliminating the need to drive across town to massive, crowded superstores.

For home cooks, Thai Hut Market acts as a highly specialized pantry. The aisles are carefully curated with everything you need to execute traditional Thai recipes—from various types of rice (including sticky and jasmine) and essential noodles, to specialized curry pastes, fish sauces, and coconut milk. One of the major highlights is their fresh produce section, where customers can regularly find vital, hard-to-source herbs like Thai basil, fresh lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves. Beyond Thai specific items, they also carry a reliable selection of regional Asian snacks, instant noodles, and imported beverages.

The true "insider edge" of Thai Hut Market is its deep connection to the beloved Thai Hut Restaurants. Because the market is operated by the same experienced restaurateurs, the products on the shelves are the same high-quality ingredients used in their professional kitchens. If you're a fan of the food at their restaurant down the road (or their newer locations), you can ask the staff for advice on which specific curry paste or sauce brand will help you replicate those exact flavors in your own kitchen.

Fui a comer frituras.

Love this small Asian market in the WOH area. You can call and ask ahead if you're looking for specific items before you go. I usually ask about the pickled radish, and it's one of the only local places that carries it near me. Perfect for when I'm making homemade kimbap and can't find all the items I need at HEB.

I came to this grocery place to buy bok choy, but everything was pre-packed so I couldn’t see the quality. When I got home and opened the bag, every single piece was rotten. I went back immediately to show them.
The first lady at the counter (an Asian-looking lady) completely ignored me, pointed at a sign on the wall about “no returns on fresh produce,” and walked away. That policy is understandable for fresh items — but these were not fresh, they were rotten and unfit to sell.
Another staff member who spoke English came over and said she would contact the owner. I waited 15 minutes while she talked to the boss, and she returned saying the owner would call me. I waited another 10 minutes — no call.
I told her I needed either a refund or an exchange for actual fresh produce. She had to call the owner again. She came back telling me, “The owner said she has no time to talk to you and just told me to replace it.”
I’m honestly shocked. An owner who refuses to speak to a customer and handles a legitimate issue this way shows a complete lack of professionalism and care. If you expect customers to support your business, the least you can do is take responsibility when spoiled items are sold.
I’m very disappointed with the experience, and I hope the owner reflects on how poorly this was handled. This is not how you treat customers.

For a place that has "Thai" in the name, they sure are missing the majority of Thai staples. They should rename it to Saigon or Da Nang Market.

Could have a bit more things to offer, other than that they have a great selection.

Buy my lumpia wrappers here. Store is clean and well stocked. Chili sauce is cheaper than HEB.

Vary small store but had what we were looking for. I needed kimchi base and they had it. Decided to also buy some veggies like eggplant, bittermelon, & long beans.
