- Not a great experience at Tampa airport. Was given an older vehicle, which had multiple issues. Exchanged it, but got another older vehicle that wasn't very well specced.
- Bogus charge for fuel. Somehow they measure the fuel level to a tenth of a gallon. Given the car is equipped with an analog gauge and the gas station pump automatically shuts-off when it thinks the tank is full, Avis will get you every time. Total Rip Off!
- Love using Avis rentals it’s so easy just leave the keys in the car. You don’t have to speak to anyone they email your receipt and you’re off to your gate. I would highly recommend them.
- This company is a scam. A $60 car for one day turned into $188. I returned it full and they still charged me for gas. Avoid Avis at all costs.
- Avoid guy named Nenad at TPA Avis, sneaky tries to push B/S insurance policies rushes you so you don’t notice what you are signing. Puts you in a worse car that you booked and is rude. Never book through Avis again.
- Even though we reserved, months in advance, a hybrid van, we were told no vans were available. So we were given a Ford expedition Max which was a gas guzzler. Then we made sure to fill the tank before returning the car, but they still charged us $86 dollars for gas upon return. Unfortunately I should have saved my gas receipt and taken a picture of the gas gauge. Lesson learned. Otherwise the truck ran perfectly and was very clean.
- Clean outside, filthy interior with an awful smell. Car had a sat navigation screen but when accessed it stated that the sat navigation module was not activated. Such a shame as Avis had a good name in the past.

- Agent was very pushy trying to talk us into extras we didn't need. He claimed I got a free car upgrade, gave me a mustang I ended up switching to a jetta outside. I didn't want the mustang. I wanted a 4 door standard I reserved. I wasn't given a free upgrade and my total was way more than it was estimated since he charged me for a mustang I didn't even leave with. The car we got smelled and was dirty inside. It kept giving us a low battery on key fob warning. What a rip off.
Edit I emailed them per response to my review and no reply or follow up.
- Poor experience from start to finish. Unhelpful and rude staff when collecting the car who tried to charge for an additional driver despite this being included with the package I booked through BA holidays. Despite booking an inclusive car hire package I have got home to find an additional charge of $544 on my credit card by Avis despite the agreement stating zero additional charges. I will never be using again.
- Don't use, avoid. Unprofessional. Added two insurances to my contract that I didn't ask for: Personal Accident Insurance and Personal Effects Protection. Both of which I had covered by my travel insurance. Underhand practice, taking advantage of tired, weary travellers. In fairness I complained to Avis head office and the money was refunded. Check your contract for additional, un-agreed items!!!
I would look to another company for my next rental.
- Excellent experience! Even had to extend our rental and that took just 2 minutes with the app.
- Wrong directions to pick up car. Customer service was very hurried. Surprised a new car doesn't have GPS enabled.
- The car was given to me dirty inside and out. The inside of windows were filthy. Outside of car was dirty and should’ve been washed. And to top it off, the windshield washer fluid was never refilled or topped off. So a dirty car inside and out, and no washer fluid. Avis service has continued to be straight trash & embarrassing. Only worthy of one star for giving me a decent model to drive although filthy.
- Very difficult to get in touch with when there's an issue. Customer service is not helpful. I reserved a specific car type (sports car) and prepaid for it. The car type and amount prepaid was confirmed multiple times. The day before the rental, I received an email that my car type was changed (compact SUV) and the amount was LOWER than what I had actually prepaid. This was never resolved and I now have to dispute with my credit card company. Will never do business with AVIS again.
- Avis Preferred member, rented a 12 passenger sprinter van for a big golf trip weekend. It was so easy to pickup the van, the friendly staff member at the main desk informed me that I could just walk right to the garage to pickup the van. When I arrived at the garage, I noticed my name was not listed on the board, but assumed it was because I was renting a specialty vehicle. Just asked the garage attendant and asked for me to verify my name, and told me where the van was located. Would certainly use Avis again for the same type of vehicle!
