Previous contact with UKHSSF was great. This time I tried to deliver to Lab. Staff rude, I was in wrong place. Lab I needed was a block away, not in same building. I was not feeling well and walking was causing breathing problems. Staff TOO busy to help. Or maybe staff didnt know where to go either.

If no stars were an option I'd give that... my 73yr old mother was admitted for serious abdominal pain... mri found a spot near the pancreas.. performed a EGD and all the sudden there is nothing... and she wakes up from the procedure in worse pain than when she started. We were smiling and singing prior to the procedure. Afterwards they had to give her 2 rounds of fentanyl and some Ativan and she still was in pain... BP went to 207/110... her normal on chart is 127/85... after getting her back to her room the nurse who lacked compassion came way later... i had to place b/p cuff on.. she was not concerned and really didnt care, they wanted to discharge her because they couldnt find what's wrong and wanted to blame it on smoking. Which even if that was the case their procedure irritated her condition and then they wanted to put her out with an elevated BP and she is crying and moving uncontrollably from the pain. THIS IS NOT KU MED IN KC... they are giving that title a bad name! they carry the title but do not operate in the same capacity... they lack compassion and empathy which are key components for a hospital setting. They will probably read this and find fault with the patient as it seems to be the MO... I recommend anyone that has serious issues to seek treatment at Stormont or just stay home...because it's one thing to be in pain it's entirely different kind of pain when you feel the people who are PAID to help you could care less... same trash bedding for 3 days... gown that she had blood on Monday was still laying on the counter on Wednesday. Don't get me wrong not all of them are bad. They are good to people that really don't have major issues.. The overnight nurse Christine on the 7th floor made me feel so much better than I did all day... she was aware there was nothing she could do but what she could do is listen... show empathy and compassion. My anxiety went down I was no longer overwhelmed and crying from this horrible experience. I was ready to risk my moms life and just take her home without consent. If they could have more of her (Christine) in the hospital it just may change the narrative of your 1stars... outside of her I'd never come here again I'd rather take her back to stormont.even tho they could never figure it out...they made sure she was stable b4 discharge and the nurses altho spread thin were still attentive..I had no problem leaving my mother in the hospital at stormont. At UofK it's not a chance I'm willing to take.. no compassion at all outside of breast cancer and birth centers..

I had surgery. I got in on the scheduled time, the nursing staff was awesome, polite, professional and yet still human. The surgery team all visited, one at a time, everything was explained, clearly. The Doctor came in, asked me if I had any questions, when I said nope, he said, okay, let's get it going. I was taken back to the operating room and 5 minutes later I was waking up in recovery. (okay, it was more like an hour) I sat around until I could pee, stand up without falling and I was release. IT WAS THAT SIMPLE!!!

I drive 5 hours one way to utilize the KU Health System.

I was referred to the hematology department for having extremely low iron. The Dr that i saw was not flexible at all. I advised him of my concern of the cost of having 5 infusions even with great insurance. He basically said it didnt matter to him as he gets paid either way if i have the treatments or i dont. I asked if instead of the iv infusions i could just do the 5 injections as it was much more reasonable, since i have to get them every 6 months. He said no he was concerned about a reaction when i made it clear i have had this before with no reactions and the nurse advised it is extremely rare to have a reaction to this medicine. He would not be bothered to consider what is best for the patient only how he could line the hospitals pockets. I used to get treatment at KUMed in KC regularly for this issue and it is night and day. I will never use St. Francis again.

On Labor Day evening, it Started off with an RN with purple in her gray hair in the ED being DISRESPECTFUL to my 5 year old and I. Talking to me like I’m stupid and being a nuisance for bringing her in for having a high fever that wouldn’t break. Ordering her around knowing damn well she hardly had her balance.( later that evening, my daughter needed a wheelchair to get around). ALL because it was shift change and she was stuck with us. I being in healthcare myself, I would’ve understood if I needed to wait for the next staff to come on. I couldn’t imagine how that woman treats patients on a daily but she ruins the rest of the staff who work in ED. Luckily when we got a room, we got an amazing Dr & Nurses. Even though they were busy or got sidetracked, they never made me feel less than. In fact they made me feel so much better for bringing her into the ER, because she ended up having pneumonia. Something no mother wants to hear for their kiddo. But again, THANK YOU to what I assume is the night shift for making me walk out with my daughter feeling 100x better than I did going in.

Dr Hamilton listens and then decides how to fix what is wrong with you. Before the doctor comes into see you, his nurse does a great job of getting you ready to see the doctor…

Waited 3 hours still wasn't seen pucking up blood went outside to smoke a cigarette not the first time and was told to go across the street by the fat security guard that watched us go outside and smoke on the grounds twice before didn't say a word about smoking on property. Is this how in Francis handles people without insurance just had their fat security guard run them off so they don't have to treat them. Wouldn't go back if I was dying.

All of the staff from scheduling to the nurse on the sleep study floor were friendly, patient, and very helpful. I understood everything as it was explained from start to finish. I would trust them with my care again. Thank you everyone for all your help.

My 87 year old father was taken to the Topeka - St. Francis Campus emergency room because Stormont Vail (his regular hospital) was too full to receive the ambulance. He was later admitted for treatment. During the week under this facility's care, my father was delivered meals to his room, awakened and told his meal was there. He could not see or reach the tray of food that had been set on the patient's rolling bed table. The nursing staff made no attempts to help him eat. Obviously they hadn't assessed his ability to feed himself. I was not informed that he hadn't eaten since his admission and discovered this on my own 3 days later when I was present at mealtime. My sister and I hand fed him his meals until he was able to do it himself. He had bandages that weren't changed daily. I witnessed a changing of his bandage on one arm. It caused him great pain as they removed the embedded gauze from the wound without attempting to moisten the guaze to make it easier to remove. Why guaze was applied directly to the wound without Telfa pads I do not know. If his bandages had moved off of open wounds they were protecting, the nursing staff did not do anything to re-cover the wound(s). We were made to feel our father was just given a bed in which to die in. In fact, on Wednesday I was called to the hospital because they believed my father was not going to live through the day. Friday, (two days later) he was discharged, but their level of care hadn't changed. I believe my Dad would have died had it not been for mine and my siblings intervention in the level of care he was receiving from the hospital staff.

I will never allow any of my family members be taken to this facility for any future medical needs. If Stormont Vail cannot accept the ambulance, I will ask for a transfer to Lawrence Memorial.

Never again, complete rip off. Went in for unbearable stomach pain, they said it was most likely an appendicitis, did a ct scan and said they couldn’t find anything wrong and told me to go home and put a heating pad on it. Then I got the bills and they didn’t apply my insurance and sent it all to collections under four different collections agencies.

I really liked it. I thank the staff who treated me because they were always attentive to me, but above all to the doctor who treated me because she tried to explain to me as clearly and understandably as possible in my language, which is Spanish, and she did it perfectly. “Thank you.”

I was in severe pain and made it to the emergency room by chance on the floor crying weeping and could not even read and the lady of the desk said that if I don't stop crying that she would kick me out of the facility and then proceeded to say leave the premises until I stop crying

Doctor Aftab is very professional answering all of my questions. She is knowledgable in using technology to look-up my history, order tests/labs, and order medications. She suggests vaccines and activities for health.

Everything was good, but lacked pain control before leaving for home, the 30 minute ride was unbearable! Doctor had prescribed a pain medication before surgery and I had them at home. The problem came when I had to wait 4 hours before I could take the pain medication the doctor prescribed. At 6pm I took the pain medication and within 15 minutes I was finally relieved from the pain. I wish the surgery discharge nurses would of cared more about me as a self paying patient.

I'm not sure which visit your're referring to. If it was Monica of Rendell's office I waited 30 minutes but was well worth the wait.
She gave me the most thorough examine and time I've ever had with the Neuropathy Dept. spending an hour with me and getting to know me and my concerns. My Visit was a wait but the visit with Monica was most efficient and I feel I'm heading in the right direction for healing my one issue.
