If you’re driving through the Heritage Square shopping center on Route 59, you can’t miss the massive, lodge-style building that looks like it was plucked straight out of the Rocky Mountains. Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at 436 Rte 59 is a local favorite in Naperville (zip code 60540) for anyone who wants a meal that feels like a vacation. It’s a huge, high-energy spot with stone-wrapped columns, a cozy fireplace, and an atmosphere that’s "fancy" enough for a date night but relaxed enough that you don't have to change out of your jeans.

The menu here is all about "elevated comfort food" made from scratch. If you’re looking for a recommendation, the Bison Meatloaf is a neighborhood legend—it’s incredibly juicy and comes topped with a mountain of mashed potatoes and crispy onions. For something a bit lighter but still packed with flavor, the Firecracker Shrimp or the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad are big hits. They even have a "TV Dinner" section where you can take home handmade frozen meals like pot roast or ham and mac n' cheese in retro tin trays, which is a total lifesaver for busy weeknights in the suburbs.

What really distinguishes Lazy Dog from every other spot on Route 59 is its commitment to our four-legged friends. This isn’t just "pet-friendly"—they have a dedicated Dog Menu for the patio. While you’re tucking into a burger, your pup can have their own bowl of grilled chicken or hamburger meat with brown rice and veggies. They even bring out a complimentary water bowl as soon as you sit down. It makes the weekend brunch rush feel like a big community hang-out where everyone (humans and dogs alike) is having a great time.

The bar scene here is also top-tier, featuring a massive selection of locally crafted beers and creative cocktails like the Smoked Maple Bacon Old Fashioned. If you’re a fan of a good deal, their Happy Hour is one of the best in Naperville, with plenty of shared plates and drinks that won’t break the bank. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch, a big family celebration, or just a beer with your dog by your side on the heated patio, Lazy Dog is a reliable, high-quality anchor for the Naperville dining scene.

Great outdoor patio and creative dishes. Also love that you can bring your lazy pooch with you if you eat outside. The bespoke brewery offerings are pretty decent. Wish they had a few more guest taps, though. And the patio would be nicer if it wasn't so close to 59. But it is convenient and a great alternative. Candied bacon in maple old fashioned was the bomb! Could I take pound to go?

I ordered a bacon burger. I did not realize it was $17 and change until our bill came. Then I questioned the waiter why he didn’t offer me the special of $15 with dessert. He seemed very frustrated and gave me a coupon for a free appetizer on my next visit. I don’t think I will be back for that reason. Never even apologized

Our server was Janee and she is fabulous! She knows her stuff and took great care of us. She did a great job of sharing suggestions as well as informing us of the ability for the kitchen to modify any of the dishes. She asked about allergies and was an overall joy.

This was our first visit, as new residents of Naperville. There were pages of menu offerings, something for everyone. My dinner companions had various salads, which they enjoyed. I had the chicken pot pie. It was a hearty serving, with crust overflowing past the top of the pie and plenty of large chicken chunks. It was quite filling....I will be enjoying the rest of it for tomorrow's lunch. Waitress was pleasant and accomodating. But it was difficult to hold a conversation, which was the main reason we all got together for early Sunday dinner in the first place. Acoustics were bad, contributing to the uncomfortable noise level.

Want to give a shout out to Manager Chris and our waitress Aiesha. We have several food allergies to Dairy, Egg, Peanuts, Treenuts, Wheat, Barley, Rye, Shellfish and Beef.
Lazy Dog did a GREAT job with accommodating an allergy friendly meal to our family member. Chris followed the request from start to finish and continued to check in during our meal with us.
We will definitely be back to visit and share our positive experience with others.
Thank you again Chris and Aiesha

The teriaki seasoned salmon and SW salad were pretty good. Eager to try the bison meatloaf.

I finally tried this spot. I'll give the atmosphere and service 4 out of 5 stars. It was a hip, warm environment with a friendly server. The beer I had was in a tall cold glass and was perfect. The brussel spout appetizer was a perfect 5. Lemony and delicious.

The only thing that kept my rating from being 5 stars was the entree. I ordered the Mediterranean bowl. For $18 the portion was small and nothing about it was great. The rice was standard. It has a small amount of chicken that's texture was off on, some sauce and onions. I get a lot more fresh value at covo.

Overall a 4 and I'd try it again, just not the Mediterranean bowl.
