Miami, 1475 W 49th Pl., Hialeah 33012 FL.

In the heart of Hialeah’s bustling medical district, Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus at 1475 W 49th Pl is a 247-bed acute care powerhouse that serves as a vital bridge between old-school community values and cutting-edge medical education.

Originally opened in 1965 as Palm Springs General Hospital, it was built when the area was still considered "rural outskirts." Today, it is a Statutory Teaching Hospital and a Primary Stroke Center, defined by a bilingual, multicultural pulse that is uniquely Hialeah.

The Vibe: Where Education Meets Empathy

The atmosphere is high-energy and academic. Because it is a major training ground for the next generation of physicians, the halls are filled with residents and fellows. This creates a "team-based" approach to care—patients aren't just seen by one doctor; they are the focus of a collaborative medical group that is constantly questioning, researching, and staying at the absolute forefront of modern protocols.

What Makes Palm Springs Campus Unique

The "Press Ganey" Standout: In 2025, the Palm Springs Campus made headlines as the only hospital in Florida to receive both the Pinnacle of Excellence and Guardian of Excellence awards for clinical quality. This places them in the top 5% of peer hospitals nationwide for patient outcomes.

A Multilingual Melting Pot: Truly reflecting its community, the hospital operates fluently in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. It is one of the few places where a patient can find a doctor who not only speaks their language but understands the specific cultural nuances of their health journey.

The Gamma Knife Center: As part of the Larkin Health System, the campus is known for its affiliation with the Miami Neuroscience Center, offering Gamma Knife® therapy—a non-invasive "bloodless surgery" that treats brain tumors and neurological conditions with sub-millimeter precision.

Bariatric Excellence: It was recognized by Leapfrog and Money as one of the 101 Best Hospitals in the U.S. for Bariatric Surgery, making it a destination for those seeking life-changing metabolic and weight-loss procedures.

The "Integrated" Campus: The 15-acre site isn't just a hospital; it includes a seven-story Medical Office Building and a specialized Larkin Multispecialty Clinic, allowing patients to move from a specialist consultation to a diagnostic test without ever leaving the campus.

Specialized Medical Strengths

Cardiac Innovation: The hospital is a leader in Level 1 adult cardiovascular services, specializing in cardiac implants, pacemakers, and complex endovascular aneurysm repairs (AAA).

The "Bones & Joints" Hub: Its orthopedic department is a regional favorite for hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, utilizing minimally invasive techniques designed to get Hialeah’s residents back on their feet faster.

Behavioral Health Bridge: While many acute care hospitals struggle with mental health integration, Larkin Palm Springs features a dedicated inpatient psychiatry unit, treating the "whole person" rather than just the physical symptoms.

Quick Facts

Scale: A 15-acre urban campus with 247 beds and an advanced ICU/Medical-Surgical wing.

Teaching Status: Provides postgraduate training in over 20 different specialties, ensuring 24/7 on-site physician presence.

Emergency: Features a 24-bed state-of-the-art Emergency Department built to handle high-volume urban trauma and acute care.

The Verdict: Larkin Palm Springs is "Hialeah’s Medical Brain Trust." It is a hospital that combines the legacy of a 60-year-old community institution with the intellectual rigors of a top-tier teaching university, ensuring that "neighborhood care" and "world-class medicine" are one and the same.

I was a patient at Larkin Palm Springs last week and I felt compelled to write a review because the level of care I received truly stood out. From the moment I walked in, every single interaction felt welcoming, organized, and truly centered around patient care. The hospital was very clean, well maintained, and everything moved in a smooth and timely manner. As someone who understands the standards of quality care, I noticed the details and truly appreciated the professionalism and attentiveness of the entire team.

My first stop was outpatient registration, and the ladies there greeted me with warm smiles and such a pleasant attitude. It set the tone for the rest of my visit and immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease.

From there I was sent to radiology where the secretary helped coordinate my next steps. I watched her handle a difficult situation with an upset patient and she remained calm, patient, and respectful the entire time. She never lost her calm, kind tone and handled the interaction with grace and professionalism. She then guided me through the process, sending me for labs, EKG, CT scan, and X ray.

Jorge Perez, the CT tech, placed my IV and immediately put me at ease with his great personality. He was attentive, gentle, and made what could have been an uncomfortable moment feel simple and stress free. The phlebotomist who drew my blood was also wonderful. She was skilled and had a steady, gentle hand.

Radiology Director Diana did an excellent job keeping everything coordinated and efficient. You can tell she takes pride in how her department runs. The EKG tech, X ray tech, and ultrasound tech were all professional, informative, and took the time to explain what they were doing before they did it.

Dr. Funicello, my surgeon, was exceptional. He was attentive, thorough, and incredibly reassuring. He took the time to listen to my concerns and made me feel confident that the issue I came in with would be taken care of for good. His bedside manner was outstanding. He made sure I understood my follow up care and even offered thoughtful guidance on ways to support my recovery, including nutrition and helpful supplements. I truly felt like he cared about me as a person, not just as a patient.

Dr. Claudia Rodriguez, the family medicine resident on his team, was phenomenal. I was feeling embarrassed about the reason for my visit and she noticed. She gently reassured me that I had nothing to be embarrassed about. That small moment of reassurance meant more than she probably realized and showed the kind of physician she is becoming. Her kindness and empathy left a lasting impression on me.

My anesthesiologist, Carlos Gonzalez, was also wonderful. He was very thorough with his pre procedure questions to ensure my safety and explained everything that would be happening and how he would keep me comfortable. His calm presence was incredibly reassuring.

In recovery I met my nurse, Yamiri Valle, who truly made a lasting impression on me. She went above and beyond in every way. She was gentle, attentive, and incredibly comforting. I could immediately tell she genuinely cares about her patients. I left that day already so grateful for the care she provided.
I returned the next day for a follow up procedure and was brought back to the OR again. I was awake for this one since anesthesia was not necessary, and I was very nervous. Yamiri had accompanied me into the OR this time and I found comfort in her presence. At one point I instinctively reached my hand out and she did not hesitate to offer hers. She held my hand the entire procedure. That simple act of kindness meant everything to me. I still get emotional thinking about it. It brought me so much comfort in a moment when I needed it most. She has a tremendous heart and the level of warmth and reassurance she gives her patients is truly special. She deserves to be recognized for the care and humanity she brings to her role.

Every single interaction I had was positive. I am truly grateful to the entire team for the care I received.

Had a 3 day stay for a bunion surgery and all I can say is that everyone was exceptional, treated me well, made sure everything was good with me at all times. It is very clean, the cleaning team was in my room 2-3 times picking up the garbage, cleaning floors. I couldn’t have asked for a better and peaceful stay. Thank you Larkin hospital!

I'm currently being treated for bunion surgery . Some of the staff is nice and some of them are not that nice . Clean I can't say it's extremely clean because I would be lying . The CNA are better than the nurses for sure at treating people . Some of the nurses titles goes to their head . That's why I give it 3 stars . The nurse told me that if I press the cold blue she would call security on me . I have a video of her saying that they don't care if you are in pain or not . They need to check their staff !
