Boston, 198 Alewife Pkwy, Cambridge, MA 02138

If you’re living in North Cambridge, Belmont, or Arlington and want to skip the high-end boutique prices without leaving the city, the T.J. Maxx & HomeGoods combo at 198 Alewife Pkwy is the ultimate local hack. Located in the Fresh Pond Shopping Center right off the Alewife Brook Parkway rotary, this "two-in-one" store is a total lifesaver for folks in the 02138 zip code. It’s got that classic, high-energy treasure hunt vibe where you might walk in for a pack of socks and walk out with a designer handbag, a hand-woven rug, and a new set of gourmet cookware—all while feeling like you just beat the system.

The real draw of this Cambridge location is having both stores connected under one roof, including the coveted Runway department at T.J. Maxx. This is where you’ll find high-end designer labels and "Gold Label" luxury pieces that usually only show up in downtown department stores. Because it’s a major hub for the surrounding neighborhoods and the nearby commuter crowd, the turnover here is incredible. Locals know that if you see a unique piece of wall art or a specific designer blazer you love, you have to grab it then and there, because it’ll likely be in someone else’s cart by the time you circle back.

What really distinguishes this spot is the convenience of the location. Since it’s anchored in a massive plaza with a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and CVS, it’s incredibly easy to knock out your entire weekly "adulting" list in one trip. Unlike trying to shop in Harvard Square or Kendall Square, you actually have a large, free parking lot here—though seasoned shoppers know the lot can get a little "adventurous" on weekend afternoons. It’s also just a short walk from the Alewife MBTA station, making it a favorite for commuters heading home on the Red Line.

The store is bright, well-organized, and generally does a great job of keeping the checkout lines moving, even when the crowds are in full swing. They keep a very consistent schedule that’s perfect for a quick browse after work or a long Saturday morning hunt for deals. T.J. Maxx & HomeGoods Cambridge is open Monday through Sunday from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM. It’s a reliable local favorite for keeping your apartment and your style looking fresh without needing a professional decorator’s budget.

Some interesting reviews about this place

I love the employees so much. You could be having an awful day, but they all are so welcoming, and their kindness and attitudes are contagious. Also, I really scored on some Calvin Klein wear!

Always a good experience. I like to get tshirts and jeans. I also like getting sports gear along side of a kitchen need.

Customer service representative was proffessional, introduced the way i can save money up to 10% and conviced me to apply/sign disregard the rushing i had to get back to work.

Hopefully all of them will be like her,my status is pending i can't wait to be approved so as i can shop more.

Brittany - front end supervisor saved me. She went out of her way to make sure I could purchase the long pants that actually fit me. Excellent customer service.

This is a well-run store. I've been a customer for years. The staff is always so helpful , they've accommodated me many times with various needs. Tried another location recently as it was closer to where I was , it paled in comparison ( merchandise, not as neat...bathroom especially. , staff not as personable/ helpful etc) .

I shop here often, but every visit becomes stressful because of how aggressively customers are pushed to open a store credit card. Even after I clearly say “no,” the cashier continues insisting, which feels uncomfortable and disrespectful.
Opening a credit card is a personal choice. When I say I’m in a rush, I still end up being delayed, and after refusing the card, the attitude changes completely items are thrown into the bag, the receipt is handed over without a word, and there is no basic courtesy.
I understand that employees are required to offer the card, but at this location the pressure goes far beyond a polite suggestion and turns into something that feels almost hostile. This makes shopping here stressful, even though I continue coming only because this store is close to my home.
Once another store opens nearby, I will choose to shop elsewhere. I hope management addresses this issue, because customers deserve respectful treatment regardless of their decision.

TJ Maxx and its associated store Marshall's are generally provide a good selection of goods at reasonable prices. However since the stores merged and can now collaborate rather than compete, they have substantially declined in multiple ways. Their quality of goods have been reduced; the percent of goods which are "finds" has gone down; the variety of styles of each product has been reduced; their prices have gone up; and their new "men in black" guards are threatening to customers. TJ Maxx controls a subtantial share of their market, and had stellar profits in the last year. They could afford to give a hoot as to the wellbeing of their customers, and save their corporate soul. But, instead they have joined the spirit of the movement of our country toward an authoritarian oligarchy.

I went to TJ Maxx on Alewife Brook Pkwy in Cambridge. I haven't been here in years! It's changed s lot. I gotta admit; I was a big fan of this store, great selections of shoes, pocketbooks of course the clothes especially the little fancy blouses I used to be able to get. All of that is gone now! What happened to the shoes??!! I used to be able to find some real gems here! Not now! What happened to the clothes?! I mean this is Cambridge!! We used to be fashionistas or maxxionistas here? Where'd we go?! It was disappointing. I did buy some camouflage pants, elastic waist- well as elastic as they could for me...lol with a drawstring. They're cute. They were jr's. They have Runway there.... hunny, that Runway done ran away...

This TJ's has much better designer clothing selection, and a better selection of quality items overall than most other nearby locations.
